Advice on buying a cable modem / router combo

Apparently there are no sales people available through the Netgear site to help you select the right product.  Maybe I should just go to Best Buy?

I have an old Xfinity modem and a fairly new (1 1/2 year old) Nighthawk router.

I want to replace that with a Netgear cablemodem / router combo.

2,000 sq ft townhome / 3 floors / 2 adults with 4 computers, 2 phones, 2 home offices with various wifi dependent appliances like printer, Ooma telo phone.  No gaming.  Mostly personal and professional office needs.

Who can suggest which cable modem/router would be best?

Dedicated Modem and using your preferred router?

Do you have a voice service on the CableTV provider?

   It's tough to imagine more useless descriptions of those devices.
Actual makers and model numbers would be less useless.

   Why?  Is there some actual problem which you are trying to solve?

@antinode

Why?

To save $ renting a modem from my ISP.

To have one less piece of plastic electronics crowding my office.

But your questions don't answer my question.

@schumaku

Apologies, but I am uncertain about what you mean by "Dedicated Modem and using your preferred router?"

We have Xfinity (Comcast) service for the current cable modem and two TVs.  I use Ooma for my voip phone.  Our cell phones are with Verizon.  We don't use Xfinity phone service, nor do we intend to.  I hope that answers your question about bundled voice.

I am looking to get a combination modem/router to consolidate the number of electronic devices I have.  I can rent one from Xfinity (I have a very old Comcast modem now and want to replace it before it bites the dust) or I can buy one from a source like Netgear.  Having used Netgear routers for some time, I am comfortable with the product.

I just don't know how to determine which Netgear product is best for my needs.

   A cable modem is usually pretty easy to hide.  Separate modem and
router provide flexibility and better/cheaper upgrade possibilities.

   Your "answers" didn't really answer mine, either.
