After access point setup, getting file not found error

After access point setup, getting file not found error

Hello all,

I was reconfiguring my system here and decided to start from scratch via a rest.

The modem is fine out the box (CG3000Dv2 N450),  I begin setting up the router as an access point, I follow the instructions, put in the names and pw's for the two bands, everything's saved and looks good, get an all good from the router.   I restart my system and both the router and the modem.

I go to log into the router first from [http://routerlogin.net] then [.com] then the router's ip [196.168.0.x] using the information I provided during the AP setup.

The login redirects me to [http://192.168.0.2/start.htm] and then http://www.routerlogin.net/genie_index.htm] where I receive a "File not found" message.

The wifi is working, and the pc is hardwired to it, so it's working, I just can't log into it.  Any advice or clues as to what the issue is.?

Thanks for helping!

Re: After access point setup, getting file not found error

I was able to fix it!

I forgot I had the nighthawk app on my phone, so for the heck of it i wanted to see if i could access the setting for the router that way.  The app stated i didn't have a router configured, but it found one would i like to set it up, went thru that setup, tried to login the router and it logged in!

Thank you all for your help!

   Which "the router" is that?

Is there an R7000 involved here, too?  Are any firmware versions
known?

Sounds like a firmware defect, but it could be only a
strange/abnormal configuration.

   Whose?  CG3000Dv2?  R7000?

Does the CG3000Dv2 management web site offer any kind of Attached
Devices report?  If so, is the R7000-as-WAP listed there?  At which IP
address?

With the R7000 in AP mode, the instructions for accessing its control interface, what Netgear refers to as its GUI, are not those from the manual. That works when it is a router. So routerlogin is a non starter.

You'll need to find the IP address of the R7000. Unless, that is, when setting up AP mode you overrode the recommended setting Get dynamically from existing router.

The CG3000Dv2 is now an ageing device and seems to lack some of the features in newer hardware. Do I see no sign of an "attached devices" page. It is probably in there somewhere. But you might find it easier to use something like the desktop genie to map the network. With luck it supports this modem/router! (The support pages suggest that it does.)

Then you can find the IP address that the CG3000Dv2 has given the R7000 and throw that into the browser.

There is a manual for the cg3000dv2 somewhere at the end of this link:

N450 | Product | Support | NETGEAR

The manual for the R7000 is here:

>>>> R7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<

By the way, with that combination of devices, many users would probably prefer using the R7000 and putting the CG3000Dv2 into modem-only (bridge) mode. But that may be another feature that Netgear added after it shipped your model.

Not really (as I discovered, with some help).  Have you tried it?
Look at "Message 3 of 5" and "Message 5 of 5" in the following thread:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1655299#M108090

You should try it.

   That's a modem+router, not a modem.

I am aware it is both, I didn't think I needed to state the obvious.  It's also a DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem but didn't mention that either.

> [...] I begin setting up the router as an access point, [...]

   Which "the router" is that?

The nighthawk R7000 Dual Band Router.  Since I referenced the CG3000Dv2 N450 as my "modem" and the R7000 as my "router,"  again, I didn't think I had to state the obvious.

known?

Yes, there is, and it's the product of the forum I posted in and listed as my model.  I do not know the firmware version since I cannot login.  I can say it was automatically updated after purchase and first use.

   Which "the information" is that?

The information it asks you for when you set up the router as an AP, like the password for my modem/router (CG3000Dv2 N450)

> The login redirects me to [http://192.168.0.2/start.htm] and then

I have a wired internet connection through the router (via ethernet cable).  Connected via wifi, since the same username and password was used for both devices as directed by the instructions of the access point setup, I actually wasn't sure until I looked at my attached devices on my cable modem/router.

*Edit:  After posting, I changed the name of my modem/router's SSID and password, and rebooting the modem/router should have kicked all attached devices off.  It didn't it still shows 18 devices connected.

Does the CG3000Dv2 management website offer any kind of Attached
Devices report?  If so, is the R7000-as-WAP listed there?  At which IP
address?

Yes, to the IP  that I stated above that I used to log into the device. 196.168.0.2 (had listed at 0.X above)

The IP issued by the modem was the one I listed 198.162.0.2.  After I reset the modem, I changed nothing on it except the SSID and pw after doing so.

I was having issues with the router and Plex and made a post regarding that.  They gave me advice as to how to proceed,  Thanks for the added insight.  I'll be the first to admit I'm terrible at networking but good with computers otherwise.  I normally only post when I've exhausted all other avenues of search or just don't understand.

Thanks for the help!

OK. I did wonder, but it wasn't clear from your first message. That's why I mentioned it.

It always helps to provide as much information as possible, even if some people have a hard time reading it.

Glad it worked out. For once we have someone who rescued their network with the Nighthawk app. Maybe I'll have to reconsider my disdain. But it doesn't help much for people trying to work on a PC.
