Best wireless router for Comcast Gigabit

I recently upgraded my Comcast service to Gigabit.  I currently have an R7000 and I get 945 Gbps at the modem directly, but my wired speeds were 125Mbps at best when going through the router.  I did some research and after disabling QoS, traffic meters, etc. I got the wired speed up to 300 Mbps.  If I wipe the router back to stock I get 600 Mbps, but the moment I start loading my MAC access control security settings it drops back down to 300 Mbps.  It's become pretty obvious the R7000 just can't handle true Gigabit speeds.  I talked with Netgear support and they agreed it just can't handle true Gigabit.

I'm now looking to upgrade my router.  The R9000 and the AX6000 look like they would do the job, but might be overkill.

- Cost isn't a huge issue, but I'd rather not spend $400-$500 if I don't need to

- I'm more concerned with wired speeds to my desktop than blazing wifi speeds

- I'd love to get as close to Gigabit speeds as possible at my desktop with MAC access control enabled

- I can't tell if the AX6000 is the spiritual successor to the R9000 or why I'd pick one over the other.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which router to get?   The main goal is fastest possible wired speeds with MAC access control turned on.

Re: Best wireless router for Comcast Gigabit

My R7800 can handle Gbps speed without an issue.

Routing: NETGEAR RAX43 - Firmware: v1.0.11.112 (1 Gbps down, 50 Mbps up)
Switching: 2x NETGEAR 8-ports (GS108v4) / 1x NETGEAR 16-ports (JGS516v2)
Desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - Server: Intel Core i7-7700K - NAS: Intel Pentium G4400, 20 TB

The connoisseur's choice of router.

Just another user.

My network DM200 -> R7800 -> GS316 -> PL1000 -> Orbi RBR40 -> Orbi RBS50Y -> RBS40V

Any 4x4 wave2 802.11ac router 'should' handle Gigabit speeds (for a list, see duckware.com/wifi#routers).  The R7800 is a great value for the performance you get.

@microchip8, Does .62 fix the port 80 slowdown problem on the R7800 (see 'results' at duckware.com/testwan2lan)? To test, what speed do you get using an internet speed test using port 80 (eg: cfspeed.com).  If that speed test is around 325 Mbps, but other speed tests are much higher, then I would conclude that .62 does NOT fix this known bug.  I do own many R7800 and like them a lot.

@duckware

I currently no longer have Gbps speed as I downgraded my subscription so I can pay less. But when I had it, my R7800 was reaching 980 Mbps on a few test sites I used
