Bug Report: R6700v3 (open guest SSID broadcast!)
@DexterJB , please inform your tech guys of these bugs.
I purchased the R6700v3 on a Prime Day Deal because I needed an inexpensive wireless bridge. All of these comments below are for when the router (FW V18.104.22.168_10.0.55) configured in wireless bridge mode:
1. "Link Rate" always 0 Mbps: The 'Advanced' index page displays the link rate speed at which the router is connecting to the AP. With other Netgear routers (like the R7800), I see a working value for "Link Rate". But on the R6700v3, it is always "0 Mbps". Clearly, the code is not pulling the correct value.
2. Open GUEST SSID is broadcast!: When the router is operating and working in wireless bridge mode, I was surprised to see that the router is broadcasting an OPEN GUEST SSID (with BSSID of the R6700). And no, guest ssid is turned off. Just to verify, I pushed the reset button on the router, went through everything again, named the guest SSID to something unique, verified it is OFF, switched on bridge mode -- and sure enough, up pops the open unique guest ssid again in wifi lists (on my PC and phone as an available SSID). That is a crazy bad bug. I am 'working around the problem' by naming the guest ssid to something crazy unique, creating a wifi password for guest, and turning off broadcasting guest ssid, which works. [mind you, guest network is off -- but somehow it is still broadcast while in wireless bridge mode].
3. More SSID strangeness: Because I was checking what SSIDs are being broadcast, I caught something else very strange. When the R6700v3 boots up, the router starts broadcasting ALL SSIDs (normal and guest). Very strange especially when the router is in wireless bridge mode. Only later, as the router fully boots up, does the router stop broadcasting the 'normal' SSID. The router appears to be operating in 'turn on everything up front and kill off what is not needed' mode -- whereas shouldn't it be operating in 'turn on only what is needed' mode?
