If I type my external ip addess, I can access Netgear's web interface.
If i go to Advanced -> Advanced Setup -> Remote management , I have "Turn Remote Management On" unticked.
Is there a way to diable external network access to the web interface?

Yes, and (you say that) you've done it.

This should be sufficient to disallow the access to the Web UI on the Internet/WAN Interface.
Router is operating in router mode, connected to the Internet with the Internet/WAN port and is not located somewhere behind a different router and some port forwarding does grant the access to the LAN interface?
What firmware version are we facing here?
Done a factory reset?
If true, this reads like yet another brilliant Netgear "feature" implementation, and lack of firmware PQA @Christian_R

Re: Can't disable remote access to web interface of Netgear r7000
It was my bad after all because I was testing this from withing my network. If I try to connect from my phone using cellular data, I can't connect.
As explained here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/How-to-disable-WAN-login-on-R7000/m-p/167112...
"If you're testing from inside your LAN, then the "NAT loopback"
feature of the R7000 could make it appear that a request to the
WAN/Internet IP address of the R7000 will get a response, but the result
from the outside world could be quite different."
