Can't make my netgear router connect to the internet

Whenever I connect my netgear router to the internet provider I have at home through its "Internet" port (the yellow one), its wifi does not provide the internet, which makes me unable to set it up through nighthawk android app. (It requires the router to be connected to the internet).
But when I connect it through any other port, it suddenly works at providing access to the internet.
Why is that ? Is my (netgear) router broken ?
Because nothing is connected to the internet port, I still can't set up my router with the app.
Help please.

What, exactly, is this "the internet provider I have at home"? A
person? A company? A box? A router?
> But when I connect it through any other port, it suddenly works at

Perhaps, but I'd still expect problems.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "Set up the
router as a WiFi access point". For more helpful pictures, fetch the
R7000 User Manual, and look there.
> Because [...]
I don't think that you know _why_ (yet). As usual, showing actual
actions (commands) with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.
> [...] I still can't set up my router with the app.
I'd avoid any Netgear-supplied app, and stick with a web browser.
(Less unreliable Netgear software that way.)
