Cannot get in to router settings

Sometimes it's in the fine print .... this is definitively wrong! The Netgear router Internet/WAN pot must be connected to the modem Ethernet port (whatever the marking says there). This could explain the off effects you experience. Sorry this required a second reading...
Once done so, restart everythig. First power-up the cable modem (let it boot and allow some minute), then the router, then the computer and the wireless devices.
