Connect to Computer from iPad Through Nighthawk

Hello, I'm struggling to do something that should be simple, but I haven't had any luck yet:  I just need to be ablet to plug my Windows 10 machine that must have a fixed IP adress in the 192.168.0.xxx range (because of the program it is running) to the LAN part of the Nighthawk and be able to access that computer with my iPad wirelessly.  The Nighthawk must also have a fixed IP address with no DHCP.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank you

   Firmware version?  Connected to what?

Luck is not what you need.  A better explanation of your environment,
and the actual task and its requirements might help, however.

_Which_ "the program" is that, and what led you to believe that it
requires some particular IP address anyplace?  Such a restriction would
be very unusual/unlikely.

These routers generally have two IP addresses: LAN and WAN/Internet.
Its LAN address generally _is _fixed, and its WAN/Internet address
generally is determined by the relevant ISP, not by the user.

Why?  Are you trying to configure the XR700 as a wireless access
point?  If so, then visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model
number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Use
the Router as a WiFi Access Point Only".

General advice: You might have more success if you described the
actual problem which you are trying to solve, rather than asking how to
implement some particular "solution" ("fixed IP address with no DHCP"),
which may have little or nothing to do with the actual problem (whatever
it might be).

Re: Connect to Computer from iPad Through Nighthawk

Firmware 1.0.1.34

Let me try again.  I need a closed network:  PC connected via ethernet to Nighthawk connected wirelessly to iPad.  That's it, nothing else on the network (no internet).

Yes, the PC must be on a fixed IP address, and yes, it's not an uncommon program.

I thought I just needed the Nighthawk to be an Access Point, but that's not working, which is why I'm reaching out.  It seems like it should be simple but I'm stuck.  I can get my iPad to be able to ping the Nighthawk and the PC can ping it as well.  but I can't get connectivity from iPad to PC, which is what I need.

That's better.  That should be nearly easy.  Exceptions noted below.

Hint: If a device has different types of Ethernet ports, then
"connected to device" is not enough detail.

Are you connecting the Windows system to a LAN Ethernet port, or are
you trying to be clever?  Hint: Don't try.  At least not that way.  In
the words of the philosopher Williams, "If you don't think too good,
don't think too much."  Your Windows system and the iPad are both LAN
systems, and should be connected accordingly.

Without some evidence, I don't believe that, but it may not really
matter.  I assume that you meant, "_is_ an uncommon program".

The default LAN address/subnet for a Netgear router is normally
"192.168.1.1/24", so if you really do want (I still doubt "need") it to
work with a client system "in the 192.168.0.xxx range", then you'd want
to adjust its LAN IP parameters accordingly.  Look for "Change the
Router's LAN IP Address" in the User Manual.  It should be happy enough
at "192.168.0.1".

Most wireless devices expect to use DHCP to get their IP parameters,
so a WAP (with no DHCP server) would be inadequate.

What are the IP addresses of all these devices/interfaces?  Actual
"ping" commands with their actual output (error messages) should be more
informative than your summary.  Copy+paste is your friend.

> [...] (no internet).

With no Internet connection, you'd typically lose DNS, but you may
not care.  I'd expect the router to be a little frustrated by the lack
of an NTP server, leading to bad date+times in logs, bad scheduling, and
other such things about which you also may not care.

But if you don't want an external/Internet connection, then leave the
router's WAN/Internet port idle.
