Connected, no internet R6700

I can not get internet access from my brand new Nighthawk (R6700) router. Because I can't get internet, I can't even access the router itself, all I get is an error message telling me to connect to the router which I can't access in the first place! I have reset and started the installation process several times over. I have watched the installation video and followed the instructions to the letter (again, several times over). I always hit this roadblock and the answers given want me to reconfigure the router, but again because there is no internet, I can't access the router. This is a brand new, I just opened the box this morning router. At this point, I think I may just return in. This is definitely not an "easy installation"!!

Re: Connected, no internet R6700

So I uninstalled the NightHawk app, turned everything off and started completely over. I had to do this several times because if the app skips even one of the set up steps, I get the same error. As an aside, if you try to pinch the app or tap anywhere except on the "Next" button, it tried to automatically connect to a wifi that isn't there yet. Even trying to switch over to my phone's settings caused the app to abandon the set up process. Very frustrating! However, once the app walked me through the entire set-up process without skipping any steps, I finally got it working. Something that should have taken about 15 minutes took about 90. Also, why can't they print out a small start up guide with actual steps?? Like, I still don't know what all the buttons on the front of the router are. I didn't even realize they were actual buttons until I accidently pressed one! I thought they were just indicator lights. Even the app doesn't explain that. I hope the performance of the router is better than the set up otherwise this thing is going in the trash!!

   Not true, but it's a common misconception.  You do _not_ need an
Internet connection to access the router.  If it _were_ true, then

almost no one could get one of these gizmos configured.

   What was the actual error message?  As usual, showing actual actions
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.  Copy+paste is
your friend.

   If the actual error message said something like "You may not be
connected to your Router's WiFi network. [...]", then welcome to what
may be the worst error message in the world.  For an explanation, try:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1365830

   Briefly, the idea is that "[www.]routerlogin.net" (or ".com") should
point to your own router, but that's true only if you use your own
router for DNS name resolution.  Regardless, you should be able to get
to the thing using its IP address, if you can determine (or guess) that.
Normally, that would be something like "192.168.1.1", but it could be
different.  Your results can depend on how your computer/device is
configured.

> [...] I have watched the installation video [...]

   Which "the installation video"?  Visit http://netgear.com/support ,
put in your model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User
Manual.  Read.

> [...] again because there is no internet, I can't access the router.
> [...]

   Again, not true.

   I'd forget the app, and stick with a web browser.  Less unreliable
Netgear software that way.

> [...] I finally got it working. [...]

   Good news.

   Consult the User Manual.

   Consult the User Manual.  On the bright side, many people land here
without having noticed that.

Re: Connected, no internet R6700

What is the modem in front of your new router?

There is support for the R6700 series, including manuals, somewhere at the end of this link:

>>> R6700 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<

>>> R6700V2 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<

>>> R6700V3 | Product | Support | NETGEAR<<<

Look at the label on the thing to see which you have.

Just another user.
