Connecting 2 routers. R6400v2 and R8000, having issues
So I had both my routers connected and using them just fine.
I connect directly to the R6400.
The R8000 is connected to the R6400 into a regular port, not the yellow one.
I had a "Firmware" update for the R8000 so I updated. That's when the issue started.
Basically I want to expand my ports, and keep the same IP range (192.168.1.000) etc...
but now for some reason I get the "NightHawk App Download" on every page in the admin panel (192.168.1.1).
No matter what page I click on in the admin panel I get the full page AD.
Now keep in mind, I'm connected the R6400 which is not a NightHawk.
The NightHawk R8000 is causeing anomalies with the R6400.
I have removed it from the network, as that has been the only fix.
How can I get back to the older firmware on the R8000. I don't want it to break my R6400
In the video, I am connected to the R6400 not the (NightHawk R8000)

Re: Connecting 2 routers. R6400v2 and R8000, having issues
I figured it out, was not easy.
1st. the problem was using the word "Wireless" where it should have not been used.
X- Use as a "Wireless" Access Point. Should been use as an "Access Point".
2nd. connect this router by itself and enable as "Wireless" Access point,
then it will also be setup as a "Wired" Access Point.
"Wired" and "Wireless" Access Point.
3rd. once you have it configured, you will loose connection,
Plug the yellow port into your primary router's ethernet port.
Now wait....... wait...... okay now you should see the secondary router in the "Attached Devices" list in the Primary router.
It will have an ip address like 192.168.1.14, you can now connect to it with limited settings as it's now an "Access Point" now.
Not just a "Wireless Access Point" but "Wired" also
Still do not understand the overly aggresive monetization in products that was paid for, at high premium.
A simple link should suffice. So stop it. I'm sure it was a IP conflict and the ad page was being pushed by accident.
So I appolagize for the other thread I could not delete.
Thanks, uhh to me again for talking to myself in the netgear community, and solving my own problem. "AGAIN!" Thanks...
However still having issues with internet going in and out. with both connected in this manner.

Is that accurate? R6400[v1] or R6400v2? Look for "Model" on the
product label.
> [...] I had both my routers connected [...]
"connected" _how_ exactly? (Hint: If a device has different types
of Ethernet ports, then "connected to device" is not enough detail.)

You "connect" _what_ "directly to the R6400"? What, exactly, does
"directly" mean to you? Wired? Wireless? Other?
> The R8000 is connected to the R6400 into a regular port, not the

See "Hint", above. _What_ on the R8000 "is connected to" _what_ on
the R6400"? What, exactly does "regular port" mean to you? "LAN" port?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "Use
the Router as a Wireless Access Point".
> I had a "Firmware" update for the R8000 so I updated. [...]
Actual firmware version(s)?
> Basically I want [...]
"Basically" is seldom a good way to begin.
> How can I get back to the older firmware [...]
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions. (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:
https://kb.netgear.com/23960
https://kb.netgear.com/31573
> 1st. the problem was using the word "Wireless" where it should have not

> Point".
Not really. A wireless access point is called a _wireless_ access
point because it provides wireless access, not because it uses a
wireless connection to the main router. When a typical Netgear wireless
router is configured as a WAP, its Ethernet switch continues to operate.
"Access Point" is an abbreviation of "Wireless Access Point"; it's
not a different type of device.
> 3rd. once you have it configured, you will [lose] connection, [...]
Yes, when configured as a WAP, a router will get a new/different LAN
IP address.

"issues"? None of that is a useful problem description. It does
not say what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it.
As usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

R8000 and R6400v2 as stated in the original post.
"connected" _how_ exactly? (Hint: If a device has different types of Ethernet ports, then "connected to device" is not enough detail.)
Connected wired of course. to use as an access point.
"Yellow RJ45" from R8000 to "Black Ethernet" on R6400v2
Not really. A wireless access point is called a _wireless_ access point because it provides wireless access, not because it uses a wireless connection to the main router. When a typical Netgear wireless router is configured as a WAP, its Ethernet switch continues to operate.
You misunderstand. I'm setting it up as a "WIRED" access point.
so when setting this up as a "WIRELESS" access point you also get the "WIRED ACCESS POINT"
I need to use the "WIRED" ports, "WIRELESS" is turned off.
> I had a "Firmware" update for the R8000 so I updated. [...] Actual firmware version(s)? > Basically I want [...] "Basically" is seldom a good way to begin.
R8000-V1.0.0.46_1.0.17, Basically, Basic is all this should have been. Simple and basic.
"issues"? None of that is a useful problem description. It does not say what you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. Did you not watch the video of the full page ad for NightHawk Android APP, on every page of the admin area, on the router that is not NightHawk, on the Router is not the one I updated, on the router I was connected to directly "ETHERNET PORT WIRED" not the one with NightHawk. Did you even read the post? Or watch the video? This was not a simple banner at the top, or on the left nav, those are there too. Way to much monetization ADs everywhere.
Doesnt matter anyway, I fixed it. was not rocket science it was just trash ADVERTISING causeing the issue.,
Thank you for the scrutney BTW....

I see both R6400 and R6400v2 "stated in the original post."
> "Yellow RJ45" from R8000 to "Black Ethernet" on R6400v2
Are there _names_ on these ports?
> You misunderstand. [...]
One of us does.

There is no such thing. Which part of the following was unclear?:
> "Access Point" is an abbreviation of "Wireless Access Point"; it's
> not a different type of device.
If you want, then you can disable the radio(s) in a router-as-WAP,
and make it a simple network switch. Many people just get a cheap
network switch.
> Did you not watch the video [...]
My time is apparently worth more to me than either mine or yours is
to you. If the text makes no sense, then I wouldn't bother with the
movie.

Re: Connecting 2 routers. R6400v2 and R8000, having issues
Connecting multiple routers LAN port togehter will always lead to a mess. A router is not just a dumb consumer Ethernet switch "to add some more ports". These routers have fixed IP LAN address (resp. adjust the LAN IP if there is an overlap with the WAN subnet), do NAT routing between LAN and WAN, operate a DHCP server (even more fun!), ... and much more.
For a reason, the fine documentation does state on p.126 "Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point" to use the router WAN port to connect to the LAN.
Only configuring the Wireless Access Point mode will reconfigure the router and disable features not required making it essentially (almost) a layer 2 device.

What monetisation? Just because the URL stars with ads_'??? The Nightawk App is developed and maintained by Netgear as a free add-on to the supported Netgear products. We can argue about ads for Armor or Circle on monetizing, but not for the Nighthawk app.
@mr_scary wrote:I'm sure it was a IP conflict and the ad page was being pushed by accident.
I'm not. Nightawk app support was added to the R6400v2 - probably along with the Netgear Armor support added mid 2019. Perfectly right it does show the Nighthawk App -and- a link for those which don't want to use it for whatever reason. FMI: Which products support the NETGEAR Nighthawk app?
Even if it's the same IP - the access tokens must be different for each devce - otherwise it would be some cross-scripting.

Community members have another life. We're not here to jump on every post - especially not those with a massive lack of details (but lot of other noise instead).

Oh this certainly makes AGAIN yet another good start for a problem you need to solve yourself. 8-)

Again did you not watch the video.
It's like no body even listens or reads.
First I know how to use it, it it was working fine.... before the firmware update.... been doing this for years...
I do appreciate help... not Scrutney ...
But please please watch the video.....
FULL PAGE AD "NIGHTHAWK APP" ON EVERY PAGE OF THE ROUTER ADMIN FOR THE OTHER ROUTER, NOT EVEN FOR THE NIGHTHAWK ROUTER !!!!!!..
Just not listening, asking questions for things that have been posted...
Also funny how wireless is turned off, and i'm using as wired... working just fine...
I solved the issue guys..... it was an advertisement glitch, and or, ip conflict....
