D7000 Connecting to Telstra NBN

Can you connect the D7000 directly to the Telstra NBN in Australia.

Reason for discussion: I have my D7000 as my Home Network and connect to the Internet via the WAN port to the Telstra Gen 3 modem (TM) ethernet port 1 provided by Telstra. Created a status route to the IP address of the TM. This setup has worked for the pass 10 years with out any problems.

Recently the internet has been dropping out. Initially, to rectify hard boot the TM problem fixed for about 20 Minutes, reboot TM again and again etc... Phone/contact Telstra: "It is an NBN issue we will send out a technician" Three Technicians later telling me it is not an NBN problem, low line loss good line speed (Internet speed test etc...) I have recently found that if I re-Apply the "Internet Setup" on the D7000 it also fixes the Internet (soft/cold reboot). What I have found is that the TM drops/ignores DNS requests. I can Ping, tracert the TM IP address or using any IP address but if I try for example telstra.com.au it fails (no DN resolution). At this moment I suspect the TM, If I keep it's outside case temperature below 30 degrees C it all works fine. So this discussion to decide if I am bypass the TM and just use the D7000.

Any help would be good!

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.

It depends on what sort of NBN you have and what you want the D7000 to do.

That is a DSL modem/router. As a modem it will only connect to a DSL service, and not all of those are compatible.

They seem to have been tweaking the DSL settings for some ISPs.

Your best bet is to ask the ISP or to compare notes with fellow users.

You can use the D7000 in router only mode, connected to whatever modem you can use to connect to your network.

This is another place to look:

Search - NETGEAR Communities – D7000 NBN

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

DSL Modems & Routers
