Disconnecting

We've been having regular internet disconnects, due to a bad ISP. However beginning last night, the disconnecting has become very frequent, every few minutes, down for 1-2 minutes. This time I believe it's due to the router, normally I can log into the router during disconnects to check bandwidth usage. During the drops today though, it is unresponsive when typing in the address. At least until i start receiving packets again in cmd. I have tried checking for firmware updates, rebooting, unplugging and plugging it back in as well. Everything is set up fairly simply, QoS is on and a password is necessary, other than that nothing has been changed in settings for the last 6 months or so.

Also forgot to add, during these times the wi-fi also drops all activity, so it is unlikely this is due to a faulty ethernet cable from my pc.

Reset the router to factory default.

What is the firmware version of the router?

Do you have stable connection when computer is directly connected to the modem?
