Double NAT

Whenever I try to play an online game on my Xbox it says I have a double NAT. The Xbox is connected to the Nighthawk and the Nighthawk is connected straight to the dish on my house. There is no other router or modem in my house.

Re: Double NAT

Greetings,

Cascading routers will cause double NAT.

Put the R9000 into AP (Access Point) mode to resolve.

R9000 manual  See page 62

~Comcast 1 Gbps/50 Mbps SB8200 > R8000P
~R8000P FW:1.4.1.50 ~R7000 FW:1.0.9.42
~R6400 FW:1.0.1.52 ~Orbi-AC3000 FW:2.5.1.8

Re: Double NAT

I don’t have cascading routers. I only have one router.

You might be absolutely right.  It might not be _in_ your house.

Let's find out.  On the R6900P management web site, go to:
ADVANCED > ADVANCED Home : Internet Port : Internet IP Address

What is that address?  Plug that address into the form at
https://whois.arin.net/  Is it a normal public address?

Re: Double NAT

It is a private IP address.

That suggests (strongly) the presence of another router.  I'd guess
that it's related to your (unspecified) "the dish on my house" (about
which I know approximately nothing).

That would be one way to avoid cascading multiple routers.

Re: Double NAT

If I put it into access point mode will I still be able to connect to the internet wired or wirelessly or will it disable one of those functions?

Should be.  That was the idea.

> [...] or will it disable one of those functions?

What it disables are all the router functions:

      https://kb.netgear.com/26765/

The other one-router arrangement would be to configure the (mystery)
"dish" router as a modem-only ("bridge mode"), but I have no idea if
that's possible.

Re: Double NAT

Yeah I got no idea about the dish. It’s on a 30 foot pole outside my house so I can’t exactly get a good look at it.
