Double Nat issue for Xbox One

Good day all.  I am having a double Nat issue with my Xbox 1.  I have the X6 R8000 going to a comcast 1GB's Router in my basement.  The X6 has the latest firmware update and I just did a reset of the router.  I can not put my Modem/router from Comcast into bridge mode because I will lose my interenet connection for my security system which is also from comcast (X1 quadruple Play so to speak).  I did set the X6 to Open Nat in Netgear Genie.  Is there another work around or do I have to set my modem into Bridge mode.  I did set up a static IP for the Xbox one and have it set up in DMZ mode.

Here is the link to the R8000 manual setting up a access point starts on page 137 and I would also change the ip address of the R8000 from 192.168.1.1 to something like 192.168.1.2 so you can select which router unit to log into ithe future.

If all you want is wired/wireless network access far from the main
modem+router (and there's an Ethernet cable (or equivalent) between the
two locations), then what you may want is to put the R8000 into
wireless-access-point mode.

Visit http://www.netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and
look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Use the Router
as a Wireless Access Point".

I agree that would give you wifi and wired access in the remote location and solve the double nat issue.

So use the netgear router in access point mode.

Thanks for the reply.  Wasn't sure what the access point does.  Will have to read up on it.

Try the User Manual.  I'd guess that ADVANCED > Advanced Setup >
Wireless Access Point will offer a picture.  In essence, a WAP acts as a
simple network switch, with just enough extra complexity to handle
wireless connections.  Generally, the router functions (DHCP, NAT, ...)
of the WAP are disabled, and left to the main router.  The result is
that all the client devices are on one big LAN.

Can I still keep my X6 wireless names and passwords in AP mode or do I have to change everything again?

I don't see why not.  The wireless characteristics of the WAP are
also independent of any for the main router, too, but the router and the
WAP can share the SSID and passphrase data if you wish.  If the main
router has wireless, then different radio channels would probably be
helpful, however.  "Automatic" might figure it out without your help,
but you might want to check on what everyone decides upon, and adjust as
desired.

Re: Double Nat issue for Xbox One

Do you think I need to change the IP adress of the X6 if the router that Comcast gave me uses the 10.0.0.1 format?  And will the 2 be compatible in AP mode?

Yes.  They must both be on the same sub-network.  Ideally, you'd give
the R8000 an address which is not in the DHCP pool of the main router.
(You don't want the main router handing out that address to someone else
after the next power failure.)  It ought to be possible to arrange a
reserved address for the R8000 on the main router, but it may be
safer/simpler to give the R8000 a static address.

I know nothing about the (unspecified) Comcast-supplied modem+router,
so I don't know what its DHCP pool range is now.  Netgear tends to give
practically everything to its DHCP server, ".2" - ".254".  My usual
suggestion in that case would be to shrink the pool to, say, ".2" -
".199", and put the WAP at, say, ".200" or ".250".  Something memorable,
but outside the pool.  I'd probably pick "10.0.0.200", but the exact
address doesn't matter much, so long as the other criteria are met.

>  And will the 2 be compatible in AP mode?

Should be.  The R8000 will be a stupid WAP, so, so long as it's on
the same subnet as the main router, with a non-duplicate IP address,
what could go wrong?  (Only one way to find out.)

Re: Double Nat issue for Xbox One

I was able to put my X6 R8000 in Ap mode and everything works as it should now.  I gave the X6 a static IP adress as well as each individual Xbox 1's (3 in all) and my PS4 Pro.  All have open Nats now with no confict when they are all on (Each has a dedicated Xbox live port as well).  I then assigned the static IP's in my gateway (Arris TG3482G) to each consoles MAC address that is in use (3 wired and 1 wireless and the X6).  Like I said earlier everything now works as it should.  Again I would like to thank everyone for the help.
