Ethernet Switch -- Not Connecting Devices

Hello,

I have currently have:
- A modem

- A router (Netgear Nighthawk R700)

- An ethernet switch (Netgear GS105V5/5 Port)
- A PC

- A gaming console

Basically, I have the following connections:
Modem > Router > Ethernet Switch > (Other ports [2] connect seperately to my PC and my gaming console)

The ethernet switch light is indicating that the power is on. There is one light that is constantly one whether anything else is plugged in or not (It is the right light above the fourth ethernet port, possibly indicating only 10mbs). While my ethernet is plugged in straight to my PC, I have 250 download and 10 upload. I bought new cables to see if it had something to do with faulty products, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have tried plugging in the ethernet port to all of the other ethernet switch's ports and vice versa with the other ethernet cables, but no lights are indicating that the signals are being picked out and output. I have read several manuals, community forums, videos, and cannot find a solution. I tried looking into my router's internal settings (firmware updates, IP addresses, etc) but nothing helped.

Feeling a bit lost at this point, any advice/tips/help would be tremendously appreciated!

Thank you for your time and consideration.

- Jae

When I read "Basically", I expected trouble.

If a switch port indicates a connection when there's no connection,
then I'd get a different switch.

   Still true.

   R7000?  Firmware version?

Sounds to me like a bad switch.

If you have only two client devices, then why do you need the switch?

Re: Ethernet Switch -- Not Connecting Devices

I checked the routers settings to see if the firmware was up to date and it was. I can fetch it if it's a necessity!

- Maybe I can clear it up a bit (sorry):
- If I have the power source plugged in, the power light is constantly green in the front. There is also a green light that is constantly on above the fourth port (on the right side).
- I tried plugging my cable that comes from the router to the switch in every port. No lights came on. I have tried putting in the other ethernet cables in as well in addition to the former cable, and no lights came on.

Also, I have my router and modem on a different level in my house, and the rest of the router's ports are hooked up to TVs and streaming devices, leaving me with one port left.

I tried hooking up the ethernet cable straight from the modem but that didn't work either. If I plug the ethernet cable straight from the router to my PC on a different level, I get connection. It's just a matter of being able to use that single port from my router to wire through my house to connect to a switch--allowing me to plug my game system in as well

Re: Ethernet Switch -- Not Connecting Devices

Thank you. I've spent countless hours trying to pinpoint the problem, even to the point of opening up the hardware. I didn't want to invest in another switch if it wasn't the problem, but I can't find any other logical solution.

- I tried connecting the same switch directly to the modem but nothing changed.

In the very end, I at least learned a lot. Thank you for your time and input
