Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Hi,

Just updated my firmware today and none of my ethernet ports (other than WAN) work any longer.

Have tried reset, reboot complete network, and no luck... Wifi works fine.

Thanks for any advice,

John

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Hi,

Sorry for not gettiung back to this sooner...

I rolled back to 1.0.5.28 (just picked at random) then disconnedted the power for 5-10 minutes, and the ports worked again.

Then flashed to 1.0.5.38 again and all is well... Not sure where the change happened, or what didn't get set/reset in .38, but rolling back solved it for me.

Thanks for the help,

John

Pull the power adapter for 1 minute then back on?

Yep, tried that... several times on the router and all other devices too.

Can you use a wireless laptop or PC and revert FW back to what was working?

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

I had the exact same issue after updating to v1.0.5.38. All ethernet ports just flash. Can't seem to reset to factory defaults either, and I had my wifi radios all turned off as I was using as just a router/firewall and so at the moment, its totally bricked for me. Interestingly it took about 8 hours after the firmware update for the device to fail. In my case, besides the disabled wifi radios on all bands, I had LAG enabled. Otherwise very vanilla. Any workarounds? Were you able to factory reset to recover?

Thanks,

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Update. I factory reset and rolled back to 1.0.5.36, and ethernet ports still won't function, just flashes. 1.0.5.38 appears to have bricked the ethernet ports permanently. Wifi still works, which for me is useless since I only now use the R9000 as a router and swtich. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Could you load up Voxels R9000 FW and see if problem is still there?

You can revert back to stock afterwards.

I would open a support ticket if you have not already and let NG know whats happening.

Just curious, what browser are you using to upload FW to the router?

What PC and OS platform are you using?

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Ok. I would recommend, next FW update, use a different browser, MS Edge or Firefox. I've seen odd things happen when Chrome is used. I don't personally use Chrome for any FW udpates. I also do a complete power OFF of a router by pulling the power adapter after new FW is loaded then back ON. Usually 1 minute is good.

Hopefully you won't see this problem again.

Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Thanks.

First issue I've had, in many years and updates, but will try it next time.

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

My R9000 w/ 1.0.5.38 Ethernet ports are working too now. Coincidently when I updated the firmwae, turned out that concurrently, my Dell Hub Ethernet port (or flaky driver) sporatically fails in a way that takes out the switch. I'm investingating w/ Dell, but in meantime, 1.0.5.38 works too for me.

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

Now that you mention it, when I had my issues with the .38 FW, two of switches (unmanaged Netgear) also stopped working, but worked again when the FW was re-flashed, and the router started working again.

Really weird.

Re: Firmware 1.0.5.38 broke Ethernet ports HELP!

One suggestion that users should keep in mind, you might disconnect all external switches and wired devices from the router, accept for 1 wired PC prior to FW updating. Might help in some of these odd cases.
