Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

I updated to the latest firmware.  Rebooted and everything seemed fine.  Then, I noticed that I could no longer log into banking accounts and other secure sites.  I can't even log into this forum -- it gets stuck at the Captcha.  I'm sure it is the router because I can connect through my 4G LTE hotspot with no problems.

There are a ton of posts about problems after upgrading firmware that span years.  The suggested solutions are a confusing and contradictory hodgepodge of suggestions.  If I don't find a solution soon, I'll have to ditch Netgear.

Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?

New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.

So a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have problems with new firmware.

Not really. The only suggestion that you will see consistently is a factory reset. It is what Netgear advises. Other ideas might then come up if that doesn't work.

Of course, there are also refinements for you to try if you have a heavily configured device and want to keep the old settings, but let's not get into that here.

By the way, I assume that rather than Firmware V.107.12 you mean Firmware Version 1.0.7.12, which is the latest for this device.

Re: Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

Hello,

I have exact the same symptom as described in this thread.

I upgraded from R7000-V1.0.7.10_1.2.3 to  V1.0.7.12_1.2.5

With R7000-V1.0.7.10_1.2.3 we experienced some slower browsing etc. and I hoped with V1.0.7.12_1.2.5 it would be improved.

Which on first indication seems to do slightly better.

However  V1.0.7.12_1.2.5  as bigger problem that after 1-3 days internet connectivity stops.

The internal network and my other R7000 (as AP's with V1.0.7.12_1.2.5) are still working fine.

Turning the R7000 OFF/ON resolves it straight away.

I used the R7000 very basic so:

NO Guestnetwork

NO QoS

NO ACL

NO Portforwarding

etc, etc.

This because sofar using any additional feature gave problems on the R7000 as router.

I have spend 500 euro's on netgear stuff, since have these devices for 15 months are only giving me issues.

I will downgrade again to V1.0.7.10_1.2.3 when it hangs a next time.

Doing everytime this strange flashing/reset of the config with every upgrade. That  tells you something is seriously wrong with the R7000.

Also for my friends (sofar ~10) I have advised them to stay away from netgear and buy Asus instead.

Brgds,

Bas.

After firmware upgrade, routing continues to work; but, router access is difficult to blocking. Unable to log in and check router logs, bring up router status, and access remotely. A list of other disfunctions also exist but those are the main events. Power cycling does not resolve the issues. Have looked for network saturation and almost everything is off - no traffic loading and problem continues to exist. Also, same symptoms occur across multiple computers through multiple browsers; Safari, Firefox, explorer, Chrome etc...

Any solutions?

Have you reset the router to its factory defaults? This is not the same as a restart, which the update process does anyway.

This is recommended and is essential if you experience problems after a firmware flash.

Tried that and still problem. Have had this for about 4 years with numerous prior firmware updates but this is first experience with these major issues. Found a thread elsewhere that Netgear pulled the update given the complaints and has made the prior firmware version availability to flash down to the previous level.

You can always get previous firmware by going to the support pages for your device.

Re: Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

Updated my firmware to latest version from netgear. Now my lan ports won't go over 10.5Mbps. WiFi seems unaffected. I'm still getting 110 to 117Mbps. Netgear... You f'ed up. 90% of my bandwidth is gone. Why are you releasing jacked up firmware...worse than a virus?  I'm now back at Rev.1.0.7.6_1.1.99 . I did factory reset.... still can't get over 11Mbps. WTF???

Re: Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

Was a factory reset performed before and after applying the FW update?

Was all QoS and Traffic Monitoring features disable while speed testing?

Are you testing speeds with a LAN wired PC with all security software disabled on the PC while testing?

Trying different browsers and different speed testing sites and servers?

Re: Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

To clarify, the diminished web interface to the router is present across multiple browser versions; and, is independent across wired or wireless or via remote access. I have begun a quarantine process in attempt to isolate the most significant control that may be adversely affecting performance. All QOS is disabled, remote access disabled, major bandwidth hogs (anything with netflix etc.) is blocked; and any bidirectional high bandwidth apps like skype or roblox are blocked. I reverted to a previous version but performance issues continue. The one thing left to do is to revert the entire router to original factory specs and then test for performance; then, bring it one firmware rev forward at a time and test until the diminished performance surfaces..

Sounds good, what version did that take you to?

Re: Firmware V.107.12_1.2.5 Broke My Router

Try a factory reset, manually reload FW, factory reset again and set up from scratch using IE11 or FF broswer. IF this fails, you might contact NG support on the phone.
