Firmware update R78950 from Sam's

I have a Nighthawk R7850, purchased from Sam's a few months ago.
Current firmware version V1.0.4.42_10.0.1
The posted update version is V1.0.5.64_10.1.74
I try to load from the webpage, app, and a manual upload. They all fail, says bad file.
Any help? With the big hack going on and the list of affected companies getting larger, I think I need to make sure I have the latest.

I got tech support on chat. She solved the issue, I downloaded each successive firmware update from the one that was current and installed them consecutively. took 4 different updates, but I am now on the current release.

Which file are you trying to load? (Hint: The zip archive itself
would be wrong.)
Actual error message? Copy+paste is your friend.

Error message when I do a manual upload
This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product.
I get the feeling that even though the pictured model is R7850, it is not an R7850. |

Ok.

Which model number does it display on the management web site (along
with that "Current firmware version V1.0.4.42_10.0.1")?
Have you tried loading an older version firmware file?
Without an R7850 in hand, I may be no better off than you. The
obvious possibilities are:
1. "R7850_V1.0.5.64_10.1.74.chk" is defective. If you can load a
different/older one, then that would be suggestive.
2. The router can't tell appropriate firmware from inappropriate. If
you can't load what's already there, then I'd say that it's seriously
confused.

Re: Firmware update R78950 from Sam's
I did a full reset and tried to upgrade with a different version. No joy. restored my backup and moved on. I guess I am just SOL.
Thanks for your help.
