Forwarded Port 25565 but port checkers say it's not open

I've forwarded port 25565 by using these instructions: https://portforward.com/netgear/nighthawk-x6-r8000/

And I've checked to see if the port was open by this site: http://canyouseeme.org/

I don't know how else to do this. Someone help, please.

Re: Forwarded Port 25565 but port checkers say it's not open

First, your R8000 must be the only router in your network.  If your modem has a router built into it, then port forwarding on the R8000 is not going to work.  You'll either need to put your modem into bridge mode or convert your R8000 into an Access Point (and set up port forwarding on the modem/router).

Second, you should set up the server with a static IP address or set up a DHCP address reservation on the R8000 to assign a fixed IP address to the server.  This will ensure that the server's IP address doesn't change, which would break port forwarding.

Third, the server that you are forwarding to should be running and specifically listening to port 25565.  Otherwise, canyouseeme.org is going to report that nothing answered at port 25565.
