Help - router will not connect to modem

I have a cm600 cable modem the will not allow routers to connect. It worked fine before vacation, now nothing. I can plug a computer into the modem and it will work, but not a router. My previous router was R7800, and I recycled the connection a few times, and did a factory reset on both the modem and router. Still during router setup, can’t find connection. So i got a R7000P, but still router will not connect. I have checked the wires, plugs and even the connection from the street to the house.

Thoughts?

If you plug the computer into the modem, what kind of IP address to you get on the computer?   Did you try unplugging power and coax cable from modem before plugging into router?

A particular computer, or any computer?

Did you contact your (unspecified) ISP?  Cable-TV providers can be
fussy about (or fearful of) different (or multiple) devices connecting
to your cable.  You may need to provide a MAC address to your ISP.

Alternatively, you may be able to configure your router to
impersonate an accepted device by "spoofing" its (accepted) MAC address.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your router's model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for things like
"Manually Set Up the Internet Connection" and "Select a Router MAC
Address radio button".

In some cases, remaining disconnected for some (unknown) time
interval might help, if that causes the ISP to forget your old
(computer's?) MAC address.

@Mordeev

Please see my previous post.  It has the steps for changing the MAC address as @antinode suggests.

Here

Let us know if it helps.

Re: Help - router will not connect to modem

if you have a small switch and place it between router and modem, does it connect then? I've seen cases where this workaround fixes the issue

Routing: NETGEAR R7800 - Voxel Firmware 1.0.2.91SF & Kamoj addon
Switching: 2x NETGEAR 8-ports (GS108v4) / 1x NETGEAR 16-ports (JGS516v2)
Desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - Server: Intel Core i7-7700K - NAS: Intel Pentium G4400, 16 TB
