Hi memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

I purchased a new Nighthawk x6s R7960p. Firmware Version
V1.4.1.44_1.3.5.  After 2 days of good performance I had a very sluggish connection this evening. Even web interface will load so slow. I checked debug.htm. It was showing high memory usage, and high flash usage as well. So I did a factory reset on web interface thinking this will clear any memory or logs and free up memory. After taht I checked the usage, nothing changed much other than system up time. This time I did a hard reset on the router 30.30.30. It still did not clear the memory. I copied the numbers here. Not sure what is causing it. I need to add data usage is very high as well. I have total 9 connections, 3 apple computers, 3 phones, and 3 nest cameras.

Before this router I had xfinity xfi router, never had a problem. I just wanted to save monthly router fee by eliminating it.

Nighthawk is connected to netgear CM1150V modem through internet port, CAT6 cable.

Re: Hi memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

1) 30-30-30 reset has no effect on ARM-based routers

2) The router runs on Linux and Linux caches RAM as much as possible to improve performance. There is nothing wrong with the RAM/Flash numbers you posted. You have a bit of a high CPU uage, though, but not much

3) Something else is causing the sluggish connection

Re: High memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

I feel a router in this price range should not have such a problem. But how can we find the cause and fix it? I'm now checking the speed with speed check. I have gig speed plan by Xfinity. I get around 850 at modem via cat6 wire. Right after resetting router I got around 500mbps using new model iPad over 5ghz. On 2.4ghz speed dose not go above 95. Distance is about 10ft away from router with no object in between. I don't have much wifi activity around, almost clear, so no interference. 4 hours after resetting speed drops to 280 on 5ghz and 65 on 2.4. I still get about 850 with direct wire to modem. I assume we can leave out modem.

I can say router is already starting to loose performance and it most probably will become sluggish in a day or so as it already did after initial set up.

Re: High memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

I would suggest going back a few firmware releases and configure only the basics needed. Make sure to perform a factory reset after going a few versions back. You can use the Reset hole at the back of the router (press it for like ~10 seconds) or through the Web GUI in Advanced -> Administration

How do I downgrade FW? Where do I find those files and instructions?

https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R7960P.aspx#download

Click on the "+ View Previous Versions" in the lower left corner to expand the menu to see older versions

Use a wired connection (no wifi and certainly no apps). Go to the Web GUI at http://192.168.1.1 and login with your credentials. Go to Advanced -> Administration and you'll find a link to the firmware page. Unzip the firmware you downloaded and upload the .img/chk file

Re: High memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

Thanks, there is only one older version. I'll downgrade when it slows down again to a halt.

Speed at 5ghz is 250, and 55 at 2.4ghz.

Re: High memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

Latest update. I have not downgraded FW yet. Speed is still holding high. Something strange happened. I activated guest Network with security, 2.4 and 5ghz-1 only. The speed on regular Network increased to around 380mbps from 265. Guest Network is also as high. Any explanation on why activating guest Network increased download speed?

Re: High memory usage right after 30.30.30 reset

Latest update, speed is holding high, even higher than it was, around 450-500mbps. Both on guest wifi and regular. Do anyone have any expalnation of how activating guest network may have caused it? I know it was starting to slow down again a day after reset. It got back to normal behaviour and thanks God still holding after guest wifi started!
