Horrible download speed on R7000 with 1.0.9.x firmware
I have a R7000, and on my mobile devices, I get about 50/200 mbps on Speedtest.net, when using 1.0.9.12 firmware. My laptop would usually do better at 200-250 up/down.
I have a fiber 1000 Mbps connetion, and tested the following and here are my average speeds with each on my devices using 5 Ghz.
Mobile devices: reported connection of 866Mbps.
- 1.0.9.12 = mobile:50/200, laptop: 200/200
- 1.0.9.10 = mobile:50/200
- 1.0.9.6 = mobile:90/130 (would sometimes go up to 150)
- 1.0.8.34 = mobile:200/200, laptop: 330/200
- 1.0.7.12 = mobile:220/220
- 1.0.5.70 = mobile:220/220
Mobile Devices: Moto Z Droid, LG Tab 8, Kindle Fire HD 8, iPhone 7, iPhone X
So why would the newer firmware impact my mobile devices primarily? I do see some impact on my laptop as well, but the biggest impact is definately my mobile devices.

Re: Horrible download speed on R7000 with 1.0.9.x firmware
The first thing to do with a 1000 MBps service is to disable QoS. You don't need it.
There is support material, including a manual, for the R7000 somewhere at the end of this link:
>>>> R7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<
Start at page 47.

Re: Horrible download speed on R7000 with 1.0.9.x firmware
Thanks for the feedback.
As stated, the issue lies within the firmware version. Starting with the 1.0.9 series, and primarily 1.0.9.10, wifi download speed suffers.
But to answer your question, QoS was disabled in all tests.
