How do i block an IP address in R7000?

How do I configure R7000 to block an IP address? I want my router to ignore this IP address: https://twitter.com/manfightdragon/status/823740044682805249/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I just can't seem to find where to configure it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: How do i block an IP address in R7000?

Go to ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Static Routes and set up the following static route:

Destination IP address: 111.119.22.0

IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway Mask: <an unused IP address on your home network>

Metric: 1

This will technically block traffic in the outgoing direction by sending it to that unused address.  This should be good enough to effectively block communication with that destination.

Thanks, I will try this!

I am wondering though, would my PS4 try to connect to an alternate IP address just like in this tweet:

or will it try to connect to my unused IP address entered in the Gateway Mask?

Re: How do i block an IP address in R7000?

Presumably, the PS4 decided to connect to 111.119.22.0 because an address in that network was returned in a DNS reply. A DNS reply can contain multiple addresses. The PS4 can try connecting to those other addresses or it could try sending a DNS query for another domain. That's up to the PS4 to decide.

I will say that this whole idea is kind of a hack to work around poor distribution of the servers. But, hey, if it works, then more power to you!
