I have an AC1900 Netgear Nighhawk Router that doesn't work with Spectrum, do I need to change router

Hello,

I have a Nighthawk router AC1900 that I've used for a few years, recently got Spectrum services and it doesn't seem to be compatible, just switched from ATT Fiber. I updated the Firmware to no avail, any suggestion on fixing it myself or do I need a new router?

Looking for suggestions on a replacement as well, I have a: PS5,Computer, Security System, Apple TV, Smart TV, 2 Smartphones.

Network Bandwidth - 400/20

Home Sq Footage - 1,600 Ft, router is on the far corner of the house, while some network devices are on the opposite corner.

Thank you!

what actual router do you have? AC1900 is a speed

What modem/gateway do you have from spectrum?

who told you it doesn't work with spectrum?

Details are key as I haven't found a router only device that won't work with spectrum.

Spectrum Wave 2

R6900 gigabit I believe

When the technician hooked it up the internet showed to be red and wouldn't work, we rebooted the router and reset it to no avail. Then I updated the firmware which didn't work as well. The Wave 2 provided by Spectrum isn't very good either.

Spectrum has 3x wave 2 routers.

Try putting the R6900 in access point mode and connecting it to the spectrum device.

Update on equipment

AC1900 R7000

RAG2V1K Spectrum Router

So I set it up as an AP and the internet does work now, however I don't see the 5G option come up on WIFI anymore, and when I connect it seems to have to *configure* often when I connect to some devices: Laptop, phone etc. It's like the internet comes available on and off?

When it does work though it works great across the house, better than the Spectrum Router.

You're insight is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Do you have the R6900 or R7000?

Also, if you're using smart connect, it combines the 2.4ghz and 5ghz into a single ssid. They won't show as seperate unless you disable smart connect and name the ssid's different

Yes, I have smart connect set up. Do you suggest I take it off?

Also, I have the R7000.

Thank you,

You can use smart connect.

Its just more of an FYI that if you're using it, you won't "see" the seperate networks because they show up as a single one.

Gotcha,

I'm wondering if this *configuring* the Netgear network does on and off when connecting to a device has something to do with the Smart Connect being some devices are at a distance.

Was having trouble even watching TV last night on the Netgear network, so switched back to the Spectrum device.

Best regards,

smart connect allows your devices to swap between 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

For some area's this doesn't work well because they have so many 2.4ghz signals and its more sensitive to interference.
