I'm dumb

I've been trying to use this wifi router for 2 days now. At first I didn't know I needed an app. I live out of city and as such have tells smart hub for internet. It barely works. Guy at the store told me just plug this into it and I'll be fine. There's so much more to this and I don't understand this stuff. I thought I had er licked, but then got to a spot where I was supposed to put in password for wifi....it won't accept the password. I just put it in. How can it be wrong already?

_Which_ "this wifi router"?  Look for "Model" on the product label.
Firmware version?  Connected to what?

> [...] At first I didn't know I needed an app. [...]

   You didn't need an app.

"tells"?  Who "tells" whom what?  Does this mysterious "smart hub"
have any words or numbers printed on it?  Care to share?

> [...] It barely works.

"barely works" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say
what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Did you consider trying this radical concept (which works for some
people):

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.
Look for topics like "Types of Logins", "Basic Wireless Settings", and
"Reset".  Further reading might not hurt, either.

Depending on what your mysterious "smart hub" might be, you might
want to look for "access point" in that user manual, too.

> [...] but then got to a spot [...]

Not a very detailed description of that situation.

> [...] where I was supposed to put in password for wifi....it won't
> accept the password. [...]

_Which_ "the password" did you put in where?

> [...] I just put it in. How can it be wrong already?

There isn't one "the password" for all purposes.  The non-psychics in
your audience can't see what you see, or what you did.

> I'm dumb

Perhaps, but the less you know, the more important accurate,
detailed, precise descriptions become.  What you see, what you did, and
what happened when you did it, are what matter.  Non-descriptions like
"barely works" or "a spot" often convey little or no useful information.
(In this case, "no".)
