Important Security Update from NETGEAR

I'm confused. I've read a couple of topics with this heading but I'm unable to reply to ask a question about it. Further, while they're good at giving instructions on how to obtain & apply an update they don't mention my problem. Namely, I received an email (3/30/18) saying a security update is available-but when I log in to my router, go to Router Update & click on 'Check' it says no update is available. Is the email phishing or malware? Or is it spam from Netgear? Or is it valid & my router simply can't find the update? I have firmware version 1.3.0.10

Just to be clear, are you complaining that I provided a link to an
explanation, rather than repeating it all here, specifically for you?
If so, then I'm certainly sorry to have annoyed you by providing that
link.

Was that a general Web search, or a Netgear forum search, or what?
In any case, I have little control over what you searched for or found.

   Assuming that you mean this:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1445385

then please note the date on that "sticky" post.  It first appeared
after some earlier broadcast-notification atrocity.  You might note,
too, that it appears in this forum, but not (so far as I've noticed) in
any other affected-category forum.

My control over Netgear's Web content and e-mail notifications is
very poor, too.  If _I_ were sending a broadcast notification to hordes
of users who might or might not actually need to update their firmware,
then the message itself would say that instead of "We've improved your
security."

Evidence abounds that Netgear is immune to complaints about these
matters.

   Probably more the latter.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  Under Firmware and Software Downloads, compare what's
available with what you have.  Act accordingly.

Re: Important Security Update from NETGEAR

Thank you. The link you gave to the community answered my question-which you *could* have done yourself, quicker. Like much 'help' the answer comes up when you already know it & therefore know what to search for. It was not one which came up when I searched for 'firmware security update'. It would be really helpful if the sticky regarding this included the information that most of these emails from Netgear are spam. Thanks.

I particularly appreciate the point  of your last sentences. Regarding the sticky my comment on that was something that I hoped would catch the attention of those who *do* have control over it.

As for my comment about your reply I didn't intend that as a complaint. I'm sorry if it sounded like one. I'd intended to be helpful, pointing out that a reply saying the email was Netgear spam would have sufficed. I assume it took you some time to find the thread & post a link to it. Maybe not. I did note that many people ask about this subject so I suppose it might have been something you had readily available. In any case what you provided was *very* helpful so thank you.
