LaCie USB Disk wont spin down.
Hi,
I sent this message to Lacie Tech Support:
I just purchased a 4TB d2 USB3 Thunderbolt Series drive. I connect it to the USB3 port of a Netgear R7000. All seems to be working well, but the drive doesn't power down when not busy, which can be days at a time. It does power down when connected to a Windows PC. Is there a way to have the drive power down when connected to the router? I thought the drive had this spin down when idle built in?
LaCie technical support says:
Inability of drive to spin down when connected to your modem/router will suggest that drive still being accessed by the device. Drive will spin down when there is no activity but this relies greatly on the host it is connected to. Eg, if modem is actively polling all connected devices, drive will never spin down. Check administration of your Netgear device and adjust power saving/energy setting, if available.
Is the R7000 actively polling the drive? Is there a way for the R7000 to allow or command the drive to spin down?
Cheers
Ian
