My R6700 AC1750 router no longer detects wired Ethernet connections

I've been using this Router for more than a couple of years and had it used it to connect a PC using wired Ethernnet connector.
I now want to upgrade from an old laptop to a new one, and to use wired Ethernet connections to the router for the upgrade (transfer old program and data files).
The Ethernet connection fails in that the LEDs remain red for the wired connections. The PC also indicates that there is no Internet connection on the Ethernet port.
However, the wireless connection is still working. I don't want to use the wireless connections because I have devices already using it.
Any help would greatly be appreciated...

All the other hardwired devices work? its just the old device?
I'd be thinking its that device and not the router if thats the case.
Are the pins in the ethernet port bent/corroded?
You still could do it over wireless. Just run it at night
Or even just do the backup/transfer using a usb backup/external harddrive.
