Which model is it?

Who said that that would work?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read.
Look for "LAN 1 and 2 ports" and "Ethernet Port Aggregation".
Connecting more than one device to the LAN ports on a C1100 does not
work. As its User Manual says, "You can use the LAN 2 port to set up
Ethernet port aggregation." The second LAN port is not intended for use
with an additional client device.
Connect your router (WAN/Internet port) to the modem (LAN 1 port).
Connect your client devices to the router (LAN Ethernet ports or
wireless).

On _which_ LAN port? The WNR1000 (any version) is old, and has slow
Ethernet ports. Read the modem User Manual LED descriptions to learn
what an amber LED means. Read the WNR1000[vX] User Manual "Technical
Specifications" section to see the specifications of its Ethernet ports.
