Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

Exciting.

I have seen folks on this forum with V1.0.2.197_1.0.17 ... I wonder if the *_1.0.17 branch is the beamforming set of code?

I know a lot of folks are having a tough time with QOS. Even the DD-WRT folks seem to be having a tough time with QOS ... it appears NETGEAR has at least identified some issues and fixes here.

Thank you NETGEAR!

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I just updated the firmware by manually checking the router update option and everything went smoothly. But, now the gui has a message that a router firmware update is available even though I have already updated it and verified the new version. When I click the status message it checks the firmware and comes back as negative (as expected).

I have power-cycled the router yet the message still stays. Will it go away on its own?

I'm going to wait a while and see the report on this router. I'm still on 1.22 firmware since it's very stable for me but it's good to see Netgear keeping up the support on this router.

I have the same issue of firmware update available but apart from that so far seems stable. Will have to wait and test more.

Please create a ticket ... I already have Smiley Happy

While obviously this is far from a show stopper ... if lots of folks create tickets ... hopefully that will further motivate NETGEAR to push out tweaks and fixes.

I may have to if the issue persists. Apart from this minor annoyance, everything seems to be working fine.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I've had the "firmware update available" message in the beta firmware for a while now.
The last 2 releases have displayed said message.

I too have this problem. I've also discovered it's now dropping the 5Ghz ac connection on my Windows 8.1 laptop. Once the laptop goes idle, the connection seems to vanish and the only way to find it gain is to reboot the laptop.

The 2.5Ghz connection seems to be fine.

Are the beamforming and airtime fairness checkboxes missing in this one?

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

Ah, well I have been on DD WRT 23075 and it is rock solid with multiple devices on both bands. BUT, I don't need QOS is my environment so I am not affected by that issue. I have not encountered one drop in service, but I reset to factory defaults, erase nvram, and 30-30-30 when I flashed.

One thing I saw on this forum was a reference to Steve Gibson's DNS benchmark. Worked good after DNS selections were made.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I am considering purchasing this router for the USB3 port. I have an external usb3 enclosure I would like to attach to the USB port, so I will be able to access my content (photos, music, files) locally and remotely via the ipsec vpn server. I have read that enclosures with their own power supplies don't play nice with this router at the moment. Is this still the case, or was that issue resolved?

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I just went to Genie---Again an update---this time I shut down my Firewall and during the update a notification box comes up that Genie has to be replaced (ok??? why) and in the middle of the removal I get a failed again and asked if I want to ABORT yes, yes last time I had problems with Genie it left me with a WNDR4500 WITH NO FIRMWARE, and that is why I have r7000 NightHawk. I am beginning to be a bit SHY of GENIE.
Is anyone else having problems with GENIE AND DOWNLOAD/UPDATES????

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I can tell you this, I switched from DD WRT Linksys E4200 to NetGear WNDR4500 nearly 3 years ago. That appliance is still running in my daughter's house in San Diego. I have an R6300v1 running in our primary home. And, now at our condo in the city we work, I have the R7000. In each case, I bypassed Genie, and worked directly from the router IP. It is my belief, that my avoidance of many of the issue that has plagued users on this forum with these appliances, it the direct result of managing the routers without this software. I do not install it.

aan1970, Yes I also see the firmware update in the user interface and I am not using the software. I have created a ticket with netgear and would recommend the same to you. The more the users report the earlier it will be taken care of in the next update.

Agreed. I never use Genie, I just admin via the IP address.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I was wondering if anyone has seen an improvement with this new firmware. I don't want to flash it in unless there is a compelling reason to install it. I know the text states there are fixes but do they work?

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

I applied it last night and was getting a bit better performance than with the previous release. On my Nexus 5 802.11ac connection over 5ghz, I was getting 105Mbps down and 13 up. I'm not sure what the limit is since I only pay for 90Mbps down and 10Mbps up. ;-)

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

After this update, my 5Ghz band is very stable. However, I am getting frequent 2.4Ghz disconnects on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014.

With the previous firmware, the 2.4Ghz band was very stable but I got frequent 5Ghz disconnects on both my Galaxy Note 3 and my Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014.

Overall, the latest firmware is "better" for me because I would rather have a stable 5Ghz band than 2.4Ghz.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

Maybe I'll just stick with the stock firmware for now. I'm not using 5 GHz but I am using 2.4 GHz. I was hoping for better 2.4.

I streamed video for several hours over 2.4ghz last night without an issue. I have not seen any 2.4ghz issues.

Is anyone using a NAS with this router. I was wondering what speeds are you getting using wifi at both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Re: NEW R 7000 Firmware V1.0.2.194_1.0.15

So last night my main pc that's hard wired to my R7000, started having long delays on page requests and other web based applications started dropping and reconnecting. So I cycled power on my modem and router and it was still acting flakey. I was reading thru the thread and saw someone mention Steve Gibson's DNS benchmark. Is that something I should look into, I'm not sure if it pertains to the router or my ISP's DNS's. Logged into my router and performed the firmware update and still having delays when pulling up pages."still see the firmware update available, but leads to no update avaialble, will put in ticket*". Even my speed tests start strong then drop then shoot back up. Any one else come across this or recommendations??? Thanks!
