The X8 has the latest Firmware.
Windows 10 updates to date.
ISP is iiNet.
Internet connection is Fibre to the Node (VDSL).
Connection for VDSL, internet service, is via a phone connector Not Ethernet.
I was told to plug a phone cable from the modem to the wall connector.
When trying to setup connection, be it via X8 webpage login or via App on Android, I constantly receive the error "No ethernet cable connected".
Recommended setup from iiNet (ISP) is:
WAN interface: VDSL
WAN type: PPP over Ethernet
Enter Username & Password
VLAN ID: turned ON and set to 2
Please advise as I cannot connet to my ISP as the X8 is serching for Ethernet.
It's as if I need a setting to tell the X8 it will not be using an Ethernet cable.

Thank you antinode (Sage), I realise now the article refers to the D8500. I'll pick op a DM200 which will allow me to connect.
Well done and Thank you.

> Internet connection is Fibre to the Node (VDSL).
So you need a VDSL modem.
> Model: R8500|Nighthawk X8 Tri-Band AC5300 WiFi Router
That's a router, which does not include a modem.

An R8500 _will_ "be using an Ethernet cable." You need a device (a
VDSL modem) which will provide one.

Re: NIGHTHAWK X8 SEARCHING FOR ETHERNET CABLE WHEN TRYING TO CONNECT TO VDSL (Aus - iiNet)
The actual error reads:
No Ethernet Cable Is Plugged into the Router Internet Port
I have also discovered the missing setting is:
"TRANSFER MODE" which should equal "VDSL(PTM)"
Thanks for the respone antinode (Sage). I agree, it appears I would need a VDSL modem however there are settings in this unit that allow for setting up an internet connection which include username password etc. of course via Ethernet.
The following article which demonstrates, roughly in paragraph three, and I quote "The Nighthawk X8 provides a built-in fast DSL modem for broadband that is compatible with legacy ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ connections as well as lightning-fast VDSL and VDSL2 speeds"
I have also requested assistance from Netgear Support to see what they come back with however welcome all posts for an in-depth understanding.

Re: NIGHTHAWK X8 SEARCHING FOR ETHERNET CABLE WHEN TRYING TO CONNECT TO VDSL (Aus - iiNet)
> The following article [...]
... describes a D8500, not an R8500. Look for "Model" on the product
label.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read.
There's also a (different) forum for such devices:
