Ok.  That firmware is rather old.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

"All the lights"?  Including the USB port-status lights?

With my weak psychic powers, I can't see it from here.  Has it a
maker and model number?

Ok.  Did you look at the section of the D7000 User Manual on
configuring the router as a wireless access point?

   "it"?  _What_ is?

"D7000[v1]" or "D7000v2"?  Look at the product label.  Firmware
version?

What, exactly, does "as a slave" mean to you?  "as a slave" to what?

> [...] i am unable to connect to the internet [...]

When you do what, exactly?  "unable" is not a useful problem
description.  It does not say what you did.  It does not say what
happened when you did it.  As usual, showing actual actions with their
actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful
than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Possibly interesting: Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your
(actual) model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.
Look for something like "Use the Modem Router as a WiFi Access Point".

Note that the D7000v2 User Manual is lousy with errors, especially in
parts relevant to this, so, if you have a D7000v2, fetching both manuals
might be helpful.
