Hi All
My ISP just upgraded my internet connection to 200 Mbps(DL)/35 Mbps (UL) -- prior to this upgrade my internet speeds were 60 Mbps (DL)/ 25 Mbps (UL)
As a part of the upgrade, they sent me new Arris modem.
I plugged in the new modem and then i see strange issue:
- when i am connected to modem directly via ethernet cable (Cat-5E) -- i am able to get advertised speed ~ 201 Mbps (DL) and ~ 36 Mbps (UL)
- Now i connect my R8000 X6 AC3200 router with same Cat5E cable -- and over the WiFi connection -- my data speeds max out ~ 65 Mbps (DL) and 25 Mbps (UL)
- I was running WiFI speed test over 5GHz channel -- very strong signal -38 dBm
- Then i logged in to www.routerlogin.net over same 5GHz WiFi channel and under QoS option -- i tried determine my bandwidht option -- and i see the data rates ~ 190 Mbps DL/~ 35 Mbps UL -- Which means that the connection between the modem and router is fine -- as Router is still getting data close to advertised max data rate
- But over the WiFi the data rates max out at 65 Mbps (DL)/ 25 Mbps (UL)
- I have Apple TV connected to Router via Netgear gigabit ethernet switch -- via Cat5E ethernet cable -- i ran same speedtest app on Apple TV and the speed max out at 65 Mbps (DL)/ 25 Mbps (UL)
- I have upgraded FW version to latest available update
In Summary:
==========
- Modem to router speed test (via www.routerlogin.net) shows that Router is able to get data speeds of 190 Mbps (DL) / 35 Mbps (UL)
- But over WiFi (5 GHz channel with strong signal level) Data rates drops significantly -- 65 Mbps (DL)/ 25 Mbps (UL)
- Even Wired connection to the router via Gigabit ethernet switch (over Cat5E) shows poor data rates -- 65 Mbps (DL)/ 25 Mbps (UL)
Since my modem is receiving/transmitting data at advertised rates -- my ISP tells me that it is an issue with my router.
Please help me fix this issue.
Thanks in advance. Best Regards

Hi nmpth,
Update the firmware of your R8000. Reset the router to factory default after the update and reconfigure it manually.

Re: Netgear Nighthawk R8000 X6 AC3200 - SLOW speed over wifi
Hi,
Just to add to my original post, i also experimented with MTU size setting on my router.
Default setting was 1500 Bytes, i changed it to 1472 and then also 1400 bytes. Still it didn't make any difference. Data rates over Wifi still max out around 65 Mbps (DL) and 25 Mbps (UL)
Please share any suggestions you may have to fix this issue.
Thanks

Re: Netgear Nighthawk R8000 X6 AC3200 - SLOW speed over wifi
Hi JamesGL
Thanks for reply.
I already have upgraded FW to V1.0.3.46_1.1.32 when i connected my new modem.
In that case -- do i only need to factory default my R8000? Also, how do i revert my router to factory default?
Best Regards

Re: Netgear Nighthawk R8000 X6 AC3200 - SLOW speed over wifi
Hi nmpth,
Just press the reset button at the back panel of the router until the power turns amber.
