First thought is to check that the power supply is still good.
Do you have a spare that delivers the same amps and volts? And old Netgear power supply would work.

I don't have an extra 17v power supply. I did check the power cord by changing it to a different recepticle but it powers up, lights flash then fade away. I'm probably going to BestBuy to put another one and use the power cable from that one to see if it solves the problem.

17V doesn't look right. Did you mean 12V?

I know nothing, but a quick glance at the User Manual, "Figure 5.
Router label", page 16 (or the actual label on the router), might be
more productive than random guessing.
When in doubt (which should be always), take your own advice, visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in the model number, and look for
Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. (_Then_ start guessing.)
