Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
Greetings,
Flashing FW is not a big deal if done responsibly and on your terms.
Make a back up of your .cfg current FW.
We have already seen posts from the mods recommending that the router be restarted before flashing to 1.0.11.
Perform a manual flash, from a machine connected directly via ethernet. Perform set up and test stability.
If you aren't happy, reflash to the old version and apply your back up. The entire process will take less than 10 min even if you decide to go back.
Common mistakes: Using the Nighthawk app, Genie, auto-check and update, automatic update and/or flashing over wireless. Also applying a saved .cfg from a older FW version on a new one (not recommended). Perform manually and on your terms. Will be great if they have finally fixed the ability to edit the names of attached devices, but I won't hold my breath until I see it.

When they say that the router should be "restarted" - is that reset to factory defaults, or just turning it off and back on before flashing?

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I would just start with a greceful restart using the reboot button which you will see if you log nto the GUI and select the advanced tab.
If you notice any funny behavior after the flash, you can reset and see if this resolves.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I just installed V1.0.11.100_10.2.100. I haven't noticed any problems but I also haven't noticed any increase in speed. I am going to install R7000-V1.0.9.42_10.2.44 to see if I can get a speed increase the next time my wife doesn't need the internet.

I took the chance and upgrade my firmware to V1.0.11.100_10.2.100 .
I have my full gig bandwidth again! Looks like Netgear got this one right.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
- Great Post @dcrowmik, my download speeds improved after downgrading the firmware, but degraded over the course of the next 2 hours until I had to reboot the Nighthawk. Here are my notes FYI:
- Downgraded the firmware.
From: V1.0.11.100_10.2.100
To: V1.0.7.12_1.2.5 (download) - Note: In the tests below I had only 1 devide connected to the Cable Modem's 5G Wifi, and then the Nighthawk's 5G Wifi
- I connected to the Cable Modem's 5G Wireless, I get 313Mbps down and 12Mbps up
- I connected to the Nighhawk's 5G (UPnP and QoS were disabled by default
Results from the Nighthawk's 5G Wifi
- 1st SpeedTest: 62Mbps down, and 10Mbps up
- 2nd SpeedTest 200Mbps down, and 10Mbps up
- 3rd SpeedTest: 306Mbps down, and 11Mbps up
- 4th SpeedTest: 263Mbps down and 10Mbps up
- 5th SpeedTest: 280Mbps down and 10Mbps up
- 6th SpeedTest: 280Mbps down and 10Mbps up
- 7th SpeedTest: 220Mbps down and 10Mbps up
- 8th SpeedTest: 162Mbps down, and 10Mbps up
- 9th SpeedTest: 263Mbps down and 10Mbps up
- 10th SpeedTest: 253Mbps down and 12Mbps up
Downgrading the firmware improved my download speeds, but the Nighthawk (which is connected via ethernet to the cable modem) is still not performing at the consisten 300Mbps+ that I get from the Cable Modem's 5G Wifi.
45 minutes later...
I was down to getting 160Mbps down, and 10Mbps up, 15 minutes later I was getting only 62Mbps down, and 10Mbps up. I'll watch it a little while longer to see if it comes back up before rebooting.
Rebooting seems to get me decent performance for about 2 hours, by the 3rd hour, I'm rebooting.
I've had this router for 4 years, so I'm disappointed, but I think I have no choice but to buy a new router. Any recommendations for a wireless router that can handle a 300Mbps connection?

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I have been having this problem with my router since the V1.0.9.42_10.2.44 firmware upgrade. I was upgrading, testing and doing everything in my power to fix the download and upload problem… since then without any luck until I decided to upgrade to the latest version V1.0.11.100_10.2.100. I followed the Netgear instruction in order to do so, step by step. To my regret, finally I gave up since the new firmware got my router Bricked and I could not neither get it back to work nor downgrade to the oldest firmware version. I have been contacting Netgear support team since this V1.0.9.42_10.2.44 version. I was unable to get any concrete answer or any helpful suggestion. Therefore, after my router became unstable and finally broke down (after the latest upgrate attempt), I decided to put it in the garbage and forget about Netgear forever. I had been using the Netgear products for ages… NOT ANY MORE 😞
P. s. Do not waste your time to address the problem... Netgear does not care. The just want us to purchase a new product. I did purchase a new router ... of course not from them. Good luck guys

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I am now achieving 300 to 331Mbps Down and 10-12Mbps Up across my 300Mbps cable modem connectionon the Nighthawk's 5G connection (speed test results from my ISP, https://speedtest.tds.net/).
Here's what I did:

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
Upgraded to firmware V1.0.11.100_10.2.100 did NOT solve problem for me. If I plug PC directly into broadband modem I get 600-900Mbps. With the router I get around 200Mbps.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
You'll need to stay on the older firmware to get the full speeds.
I've been using V1.0.7.12 for several months now, as recommended in the OP, without any issues.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I previously had my internet speed cut in half using a newer version of firmware. I had performed the down grade to the below version several months ago, but now the internet speed is cut in half again
I am running the following and having the following issue
R7000 — Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Dual Band Gigabit Router
Hardware Version R7000
Firmware Version V1.0.9.42_10.2.44
Download speed:
- Modem direct to computer via ethernet cable = 226.6 Mbps
- Modem direct to router and then router direct to computer via ethernet cables = 93 Mbps
Upload speed: ~11 Mbps with either method
Modem is Motorola Surfboard SBG6580
I have powered cycle both computer, router, and modem allowing a minimum of 5 minutes of complete power off.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
This is gold!!! Thanks, Worked for me! I updated firmware when I randomly signed into router one day not even thinking of potential risk!! Sure as **bleep** within a few days I noticed my slow speeds, couldnt for the life of me figure out why, on and off the phone with ISP and determined it wasnt them, but my router!! Then I remembered the upgrade, did a google search and wahlah!!! All I did was factory reset, download the 1.07.02 and let it reboot itself, reset again on the back of the router, and re entered my settings and everything was back to normal!! My only issue im having now is I have 1gig internet, im only pulling 850mbps on speed tests from hard wired pc, is the r7000 capable of delivering the full 1gig? Should I contune to try to work for the full gig speeds? OP thank you very much, you saved me like 400 I was gonna go out an grab a new router today if this didnt work!!! I owe u a beer!!

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
I don't think this is a case of one firmware version (an old one) is faster than a different version (a newer one). I've never had the download speed issues with my R7000s and I been running them at 5 different locations for years. I never updated the firmware beyond V1.0.9.42_10.2.44, not because of performance problems but because I simply did not like the "user interface and operational" improvements (?!) netgear made with subsequent updates. I think there's something else going on with the hundred or so people that are having these problems that thousands upon thousands of other Netgear R7000 users don't have (ISP incompatibility, router settings, handshaking requirements, etc, etc).
Netgear support (technical, customer, warranty, or other) is the worst! If something goes wrong you're on your own! I'll update to TP-Link, Lynksys, Asus, or some other brand when these R7000s die but for the present time, they're working fine for me with Spectrum, RCN, AT&T and Shentel.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
Here's another possible solution:
I also had the issue of slow internet speed. I disabled QoS and still the same issue.
I have a 300Mbps Fibre but while plugged into the router I was only getting around 150mbps.
Finally what solved it was to disable the Blocked Sites setting. I used that to block some sites. I can consistently reproduce the issue by turning on or off this setting.
Hope this adds to the possible solutions for this annoying problem.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
It is now almost 2021, do I still need to revert firmware to pre-v1.09.xx firmware? Surely someone has updated the firmware to bypass this issue. Any feedback will be appreciated and welcomed for I am dealing with this issue now 11/24/2020.
Thanks

Downgrade in firmware does not sound good either. Because of all the security stuff lately.

im using firmware V1.0.11.110_10.2.100

'install > QoS > speedtest
and now my internet connection is up to speed.

Re: Netgear R7000 Slow Internet Speed - Our Fix - SOLVED
Hello.
What I did to get up to speed was add the upload and download speed manual. But I can't remind me now where in the settings it is.
If I use automatic it also cut my download speed in half.
So by adding your speeds manually should fix it for now
edit:
Should be here. install > QoS > speedtest
But instead of doing a speedtest. Just add your speed from your provider there manually
