Netgear R7000 not compatible with ISP

I purchased and successfully used the above named Netgear router. Then we changed providers. It seems either Cox Communications is not compatible or its techs can not configure this router to work, so I had to run out and get something else. I picked up a Linksys EA7300 because it was on sale. Can I somehow daisy-chain the Netgear to the Linksys so I can use the VPN capability on the R7000, which doesn't seem to be available on the EA7300. If I do so, will it foul up what appears to be an overly-senstive ISP? Please answer as if I know nothing, because about this I really don't. My jobs were mostly user support not hardware and I retired a few years ago and took up something else to occupy my mind. Also, using Windows 10. Thank you.

Hi Boohoo,
Since you have new internet service provider, you need to reconfigure the internet connection of your existing R7000 router. This might be the R7000 router detected the old internet connection.

Re: Netgear R7000 not compatible with ISP
Beyond me why an industry standard router like the R7000 should not be workable on a (biiig) ISP but undefined Internet connection. Provide more insight (Internet connection e.g. cable modem, ....problem, ....).

Re: Netgear R7000 not compatible with ISP
If you would be so kind to walk me through how to get you this information I will gladly oblige. We've got Cox Communications broadband. What else do you need to define the "undefined Internet connection?" The modem supplied by them is a Cisco, Model DPQ3212. Essentially, my problem is I want to take advantage of the built-in VPN capability on the Netgear. It seems the Cox techs couldn't make it work. I haven't tried. I need to foul up the household internet about as much as I need to fall and break a hip. Thanks in advance.
