Netgear R9000-100NAS Nighthawk X10 dropping 14 hours of logs entries suddenly

My logs started dropping out from about 1 AM to 3 PM.  I have no idea why.  I have not changed any settings. Need help on this one please.

Welcome to the community, @wgd1350

What kind of disconnection is happening? Is it internet?
Can you provide the screenshot of the logs?

What's the firmware version installed on your router?

Make sure that you do not have intermittent connection when you bypass the router. Just to rule out that this isn't an ISP problem.

Re: Netgear R9000-100NAS Nighthawk X10 dropping 14 hours of logs entries suddenly

I am not dropping out during those hours, in fact it is the morning when I use it most.  I have the latest version of firmware, checked last night for an update and none were available.  What happens seems to be strictly confined to the log.

I usually copy the email of the log and paste it into a text document, but get tired of reformating.   So I have been going in after midnight and copying what it there [copying, not cutting] as that retains the formatting of the log.

This unusual behavior seems to have started sometime after I started copying most of the log directly and pasting it into my text files.  Almost looks like that my presence deletes log content.

On the other hand the DoS attacks have been absolutely horrible of late, easily 2 times as many in a 12 hour period.

Don't know what you mean by "bypass the router".  I have had intermittant connection status with disconnects of 10 seconds to 4 minutes for the better part of a year.

The disappearing log entries just started about 4 days ago.

Bypass would mean to directly connect your computer straight to the internet source which is your modem.

Take out the router from the setup so you could verify that the connection from your modem is stable and doesn't drop.

I do not do that.  Ever.  Can't imagine that.

It's better to guarantee that your ISP isn't the culprit of the disconnection.

It isn't the intermittant internet connection that is my question.  It is the missing data from the logs.

Can you try to compare if you use a different firmware version?

What kind of data that are missing?

Actually it has stopped.  It only happened three nights.  And the data that was missing was everything over a 12-15 hour period.  A check shows I am still using the latest firmware

V1.0.2.40.  It never happened before when I was accessing the log online.

Re: Netgear R9000-100NAS Nighthawk X10 dropping 14 hours of logs entries suddenly

Actually it has started again.  I am only getting about 14 hours of the log, from about 8 AM to midnight.  I changed the log time to email at Midnight, and all was fine for a while [some weeks], and just recently it stopped giving me from Midnight to about 8 AM.

I checked the Schedule page and the log page.  Cannot find anything that would cause this.  The only thing that struck me was on the schedule: Setting 0:00, then radio buttons for AM and PM.  You cannot deselect one without the other selecting automatically.   I'd welcome any ideas.  Can the software folks consider these problems when writing the next Firmware update?

Thanks!

Sorry, I meant the email page, not the Schedule page.

Re: Netgear R9000-100NAS Nighthawk X10 dropping 14 hours of logs entries suddenly

Very disappointing that no one on here can provide any help in correcting the software in the logs emailed every midnight.  This has been very frustrating for over a year.  The firmware is sketchy at best in terms of the log options.  I am not getting about the last 7 hours of the day in my logs.  I am not shutting down or restarting, I am usually on the computer from 7 AM every day, yet nothing prior to 1530 local is showing in the log emails.

Why?  And how do we fix this problem?  Bought router 13 months ago.  Used to get full logs.

Just sent a report (with proof) to Netgear Taiwan that the R9000 log is maintained very random and incomplete. Logging seems to stop and resume randomly.

For my part, I would prefer a syslog feed over the pure local log file.

Thanks Schumaku.  I hope you'll get a fix from them for this problem.

Wouldn't you know it...two straight days of full 24-hour logs.  In fact, today's email included half of yesterday's log!  Please do not construe this post to mean I think the situation has been resolved.  I took no action.  This is part of the randomness of the logs.

Well yes ... one would expect that the scheduled [email sent to: ...] is either within the first or the last second log entries. And not somewhere in what one would expect to be a 24h log snapshot. Here the log is configured to be sent at 15:00 (03:00PM):

[DHCP IP: 192.168.1.9][Device Name: <<snip>>, Monday, February 12, 2018 14:44:37

...

[email sent to: <<snip>>] Sunday, February 11, 2018 15:00:04
[DHCP IP: 192.168.1.6][Device Name:<<snip>>, Sunday, February 11, 2018 13:30:39
...

[DHCP IP: 192.168.1.8][Device Name: <<snip>>, Sunday, February 11, 2018 06:19:58

While we're at this ...how carless is thie Genie UI implemented. Sometimes 24-hour clock (the standard almost everywhere on the world)...

R9000 1.0.3.10 Security Schedule 24h.PNG

...and right away in the next menu point AM/PM - something exotic (seriously my American friends) this is not standard...
