New admin password

Every time I try to follow prompt to make a new admin password following directions for at least 10 characters, 1 uppercase, 1 lowercase, an error message comes up indicating that alphanumeric (english only) characters need to be used. Doesn't seem to think anything I type in is acceptable. Is this an app glitch?

Re: New admin password

You gave us nothing to go off.

What NG product do you have and referring too?
To get a hold of support. Click on "MyNetgear" at the top.
Register an account (or login) and then the device.
From there you can start the support process. Keep in mind that its only free for the first 90 days.
There's a support site with access to manuals, firmware, install guides, etc.
Go to https://www.netgear.com/support/
Type in your model number and from there it'll take you to the above.
Its a great resource to start with.

R7000 - Admin password

Hi,
I had to reset my Wifi Router R7000 and during g the configuration of the device, the app asked me to configure a new admin password.

However, the app seems to bug on the character used and keeps telling me that my password doesn't use alphanumeric digits (see picture joined)

Re: New admin password

The problem was solved by browsing to 192.168.1.1 on my phone using Chrome. Then the admin password setting page came up and I was able to set the password and setup the security questions fine. Once that was done, I was then able to browse to 192.168.1.1 on my laptop as well.

Note that prior to the password being successfully set, when I tried to browse to 192.168.1.1 on my laptop, it would send me to: https://www.netgear.com/home/services/routerlogincom/.

All of this problem resolution was done in an online chat session with a Netgear agent, as my laptop was connected to the internet fine.

If the above does not work for you, I would recommend chatting online with a Netgear agent.

I include the chat session script below:

Nickson T (6/2/2022, 2:56:51 PM): To confirm when you access the 192.168.1.1 on the browser of your laptop, it goes to https://www.netgear.com/home/services/routerlogincom/?
Me (6/2/2022, 2:56:58 PM): Yes
Me (6/2/2022, 2:58:39 PM): https://www.netgear.com/home/services/routerlogincom/
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 2:59:01 PM): Alright kindly use other browser
Me (6/2/2022, 2:59:33 PM): Same thing happens with IE
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 2:59:48 PM): Then make sure to type the 192.168.1.1 in the address bar on top of the screen, no in the search bar
Me (6/2/2022, 3:00:40 PM): It is the address bar in both browsers
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:02:20 PM): how about typing this exact address

http://routerlogin.net
Me (6/2/2022, 3:03:27 PM): Same thing happens for both browers.
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:04:41 PM): Is your computer connected wirelessly to the router? or via ethernet cable ?
Me (6/2/2022, 3:05:11 PM): Wireless thru NETGEAR49
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:05:30 PM): Is there any other device that has the capability to access the router admin page?
Me (6/2/2022, 3:07:14 PM): OK. I shall use my phone
Me (6/2/2022, 3:07:51 PM): That is now accepting the password. Progress. Just doing the security questions.
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:08:17 PM): Alright
Me (6/2/2022, 3:09:29 PM): So I managed to complete that using my phone browser!
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:09:55 PM): Great!, Can you now check if you can now access your router admin page?
Me (6/2/2022, 3:10:36 PM): Yes. On my phone thru Chrome.
Me (6/2/2022, 3:11:37 PM): Now I can access it through 192.168.1.1 on my laptop too.
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:11:56 PM): Alright, For your laptop, can you try to use ethernet cable , and try to access again the router admin page?
Me (6/2/2022, 3:12:13 PM): Will do now.
Nickson T (6/2/2022, 3:12:16 PM): Ok.
Me (6/2/2022, 3:13:43 PM): I can connect now through my ethernet connected laptop. So the router setup issue is resolved. Thanks!

Re: New admin password

I hope this will be a brief rant. Why on <english> keyboards are we not allowed to  use all ASCII characters of values 32 through 127. There are some organizations that allow <spaces>, <commas>, etc., but there are entirely too many that instruct users to simply include "special characters" w/o definition. And when you can find such definition, it is some pathetic sub-group of what is available on a standard keyboard. I personally, would love to enter "0, wy is this s0 S2pid?" as my password, I know it's too long, but why? Is everyone still using IBM 3600 mainframes and pushing around their 20 MB hard drives on casters?

It seems to me that these arbitrary restrictions on what we choose to use as passwords make them less secure while making them impossible to remember.

and having to use a phone browser in conjunction with a pc is...
