New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

Available now on ftp site. Loaded it up and running fine. This is the first official release firmware (for me) that reestablished internet connections, (both ipv4 and ipv6) automatically without requiring messing around with modem/router reboots to get the internet to connect again.

Pings to the great "out there" are faster with this Netgear FW then either Shibby or kongs DD-WRT variant.

A few days ago I was given a beta to test some DLNA problems I had. I was told " I would like to suggest the beta firmware I have below. It is version 1.0.3.69 for USB concerns", and in that drop if you copied files from the computer to a USB hard drive they NEVER showed on the hard drive.

Before I load this one can someone verify that this function, copying a file from the PC is visible on a Media Client on either the PC or a tablet/phone? Also, one can read FILES.DB in the .READYDLNA folder (using SQLITEBROWSER) and see if there were entries made for the new files?

Thanks.

I don't do DLNA but can tell you copy files back and forth from the attached USB drive works fine.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

Thanks, yes, the copy function worked fine for me too. Media Client when they connect to the USB/Router read the database to locate files. I discovered new files didn't get into the database. However one can stop the Media Server, delete the FILES.DB, and start the server again. It then handles correctly all the files present and updates/creates the database.

I was told the flash I was to get had USB fixes in it and they wanted to test if it would fix the DLNA problem.

I'm not a heavy user of the USB drive other than as a Media Server, so if that is broken, this is not a good thing for me.

I guess I should try it to be sure?

Thanks for the response.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

Personally I'd never use an attached drive as a media server/storage/etc. Not really designed for that kind of thing.

NAS are so cheap and that is what I do.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

OK, I flashed and tried it. DLNA client sees the new files added. Works as before, other than my dup file problem which they can't seem to fix. May be specific programs that the database bug effects. For instance, AirAv for the iPad sees the duplicated files with different time stamps and smaller sizes. Both will play the same file though correctly. However on the PC, VLC and other players do NOT see the dup's. I recall Windows Media Center did see it (Win8) but since I updated to W8.1 that app was 'lost', so I can't test that one, but I'm quite sure it saw both the original and dup?

Netgear has been working on this since last March and can't fix it, but recently I was able to determine that they don't have an iPad to reproduce the problem and were relying on VLC to do it. Now they know the FILES.DB contains the duplicated data with different timestamps, maybe they'd fix it now?

Im using DD WRT (latest version) and it has a lot of great functions available , but it is not as fast as the official firmware (WiFi). I wonder if they will catch up one day.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

This installed okay. Saved the settings under Admin as recommended, installed the firmware, erased the settings settings, rebooted modem, R7000 and all the switches.
Works okay.
I installed it because the network Officejet Pro 8600 had been working fine but over the last two weeks it started showing "Offline" as a status. Maybe it will fix it. Also why did the R700 use to work fine but recently start kicking the printer offline? (Or maybe the printer was kicking itself offline.) .150 is the number reserved for it so that is not an issue.

I hope it fixes that for you, as for me I went to DD-WRT and I've haven't had any issues with my wireless printer since installing it. I do hope it fixes it so i can go to back stock at some point.

The .68 FW drops all my connections every couple of hours, ethernet and wireless, I can get them back if I reset the modem, but then 2-3 hours later it will drop it again. I finally went back to .60 this morning and everything is fine again. I'm on Comcast and running a Zoom 5341j Modem.

Doing fine here. Printer stays connected.

Because of moving from DD-WRT back to Netgear did full reset of nvram and reconfigured from ground up.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

When installing new NETGEAR firmware I always: 1. Via router GUI "reset to default" 2. Wait a few minutes 3. Power on and power off 4. Wait a few minutes 5. Update firmware 6. Wait a few minutes 7. Power on and power off 8. Wait a few minutes 9. Reconfigure - this process may reboot the router along the way a few times 10. Wait a few minutes 11. Power on and power off 12. Wait a few minutes Good to go! This has worked for me fairly reliably. Note: I may save my settings as a Step 0 (via the router GUI). This way, if I ever revert back to the specific version, I just use the settings file to reconfigure versus a manual reconfigure.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

Thanks for the tips! I am not sure what's causing it, it could be the Zoom 5341j not liking the new FW, whatever the reason .60 is working fine for me, including IPv6, so I'm going to stay put.

I'm getting a Motorola/Arris SB6183 from Amazon, as soon as I get that I will try the new FW again and see if it works okay with that one.

Re: New firmware R7000-V1.0.3.68_1.1.31.chk

CaliforniaRailRoadGuy,

Sounds like a good plan. If .60 is working for you and you're happy with it, then just use it!

On the other hand, when you update your firmware, it is good practice to reset your router to factory defaults after the upgrade, and manually re-enter your settings. While this will take extra time, it can save you pain later on. Which is a good trade-off for me, I find *smile*.

I always factory reset the modem after a FW update, but I usually restore the settings from a backup, I will try the manual way next time, thanks!

A subscriber from WA over on dslreports also just had this issue happen to him this morning with the.68 FW, he switched back to .60 and everything is fine again.
