I have a Night Hawk X8 R8500. I see the devices when they are connected. Is there a way to see the devices that have been connected to the router, but are no longer in range?

Welcome to the community, @Vcap
You may want to start enabling Access Control.
From there, you will be able to see devices that were previously connected to your network.
