Nighthawk 7000 enable https / ssl login for internal administration

Dear Community,

I want to change the browser administration page from http to https (port 443). The only thing I found ist the possibility to open https for external administration.

I want to prevent sending the admin password for the router in plain text within my home network. Is there a possibility to configure https for administration?

If there is no secure way for router configuration using wlan how do u configure it in a secure way (using cable direct attached to router)?

Best regards

Mark

AFAIK, there is no way to enable https for internal administration. The assumption is that you have reasonable control over the devices in your own network.

The only secure way I can think of to manage your router is to turn off the radios using the physical Wi-Fi button and disconnect all wired devices from the R7000 except for one wired computer.

Thx for your response.

I was not aware this topic was discussed before.

For me it is hard to believe a company does not offer 20 year old standard security mechanisms to handle network security related devices. Shame on netgear product managament team. You have what it takes!

The rising number of smart tv's, smart home devices, wlan printers hardly improve security in my network and by the way https is deprecated by a rising number if browsers.

You won't get any disagreement from me about the lack of https support.

On the other hand, https is no way deprecated.  You are probably thinking of SSL, which is one of the security protocols that can be used by https to encrypt a connection.  SSL has been deprecated because it has been proven to be insecure.  It has been replaced by TLS and the recommendation is for https to use TLS.  Many browsers have removed support for SSL.
