my nighthawk is responding to port 42443 connection.
I dont know what that is.
When I tried to port forward - had 0 effect.
When I tried to BLOCK the port - the router said I cannot as its being used.
What is this PORT??? how do I disable it?
telnet XX.XX.XX.XX 42443
Trying XX.XX.XX.XX...
Connected to XX.XX.XX.XX.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
Its clearly responding to it... Not good...
Some external scanner said I failed the scan due to this port.
I think I have the latest firmware running.
How do I disable this port ?
Thanks,
Jerry

Do you have any gaming console connected to the router now? Disconnect it then scan again if the port is still open.

Re: Nighthawk 7000 responding to port 42443
did you reboot router after disabling? In the portmap table it should list IP of device requesting the port find it and start looking at that device it's not a router problem something on your network is requesting it.
do you use itunes?

I did reboot. Just tried again also. still responding...
I am not finding the portmap table. Where is that ?
All I see is port forwarding.
I do not use itunes. I dont see a setting for that like the uPNP.
Thanks,

It's on same page as UPNP
Try a factory default reset

Re: Nighthawk 7000 responding to port 42443
Appears as though my portmap table is EMPTY (see below).
I also looked in the admin logs and I see nothing there about port 42443.
I cannot do a factory reset right now as its in use.
Anything else ?

What are you looking at to tell that it's still responding

Re: Nighthawk 7000 responding to port 42443
I do a "telnet XX.xx.XX.XX 42443"
and it answers
if I do port 42444 I get no connection
The reason this came up was that for a reason a company scanned my IP and
said this port is responding and flagged it as bad.
Thanks

I have reset my unit.
I also checked my other unit. Both are responding to port 42443.
What is this port and how do I disable it.

Re: Nighthawk 7000 responding to port 42443
okay i just found out how to disable it. Its the DNLA media server on the router. If you login go to USB Functions > Ready Share Storage > media server tab and then untick the media server option and apply that will close the port
