Nighthawk A7000 Devices connected names

I have latest firmware on my Nighthawk A7000 router.  I have 10 devices attached to it,

3 wired and 7 wireless.  Some of them show a - for device name.  How can I find out

what the actual device is for the devices with no name?

Hope I did this correctly as it is my first post on this forum.

Thanks

Where are you looking? Browser interface? Desktop app? Mobile genie?

Browser interface by entering my 192.168.1.1

That's the best way to do it in my experience.

You don't say what the firmware is. That can influence these things. New firmware changes what you see in the browser interface.

Also, you did not confirm the router's model number. A7000 is not one of Netgear's router models. It is actually a WiFi USB Adapter.

Assuming the is really an R7000, is the firmware V1.0.9.60?

The attached devices list should have the MAC address of each device.  If it isn't named, check the MAC address on each of your devices and edit the device list to add the name.

Model is R7000   Firmware is: 1.0.9.60_10.2.60

I have found out how to change the device name but the changed name will not hold.  It changes it back.  The next time it showss what the original name was.

Are you clicking "Save" after you do this, or just backing out of that particular page?  Mine keeps the newly assigned names.

I don't see a save option, Only Apply.   Yes I do click apply.

Yes, "Apply".  Not sure what's going on, then.

Re: Nighthawk A7000 Devices connected names

There was a period when firmware broke that feature on several devices. But an update was supposed to have fixed it.

If you have not done so at some stage, a factory reset might help.

New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.

So while it isn't guaranteed to fix problems a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have issues with new firmware.

This is a nuisance because you then have to reconfigure the device all over again.

You can backup your settings before you reset and restore them later. But that may just bring back the fault. Then again, at least you will know if the reset fixed the problem.

Yeah, they fixed it... I can't make changes via a Browser Genie on my R8000 (V1.0.4.28_10.1.54). On the Attached Devices page is this in the HELP:

=============

Attached Device Help

This screen displays information about the devices that are attached to the router.

Edit selection: Select a device and click the Edit button. The Edit Device page displays.

=============

The FIX, took out the EDIT button!!! Smiley LOL

However there is a workaround. Both the Nighthawk and Genie Mobile apps can be used to change the names. It holds on my R8000 so might for other routers as well.

I am justs going to let well enough alone.  I just wondered what the devices were.  I know I have a Surface that is wireless and the MAC address that it shows does not even show on my connected devices.
