I'm able to browse the internet if I connected the etherernet cable in the LAN Port , if I connect the same cable in R6900
Light indicaator shows its connected to internet but not able to browse it , I tried the reset button and also tried to login on the router login page http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1 with another lan cord physical connnected to the router but not able to reach the settings page even reset is not completely doing the factory reset mean to say replacing the factory ssid and password configuration
Any help how to solve this issue is greatly appreciated

Hi Antinode,
Thanks for your reply, I'm able to solve this out with the following actions
1.I disconnected the ethernet cable from modem to router
2. Power off the router and modem
3. I switch on the router and press the reset button for 10 seconds, without connecting it to the modem
4. Once the router boot up I able to see the Factory created SSID is showing up in the WIFI broadcasting list
5. I turn off the router and turn on the modem and wait for it to get established connection with the local node
6. Once connection is established I connected the ethernet cable from Modem to wifi router and another ethernet cable from router to Mac
7. I connected the router admin page and updated the firmware in the modem
8. I also run the setup wizard again to configure the router and the issue got resolved.
Thank you so much for all your help and guidances
Thanks
Sundher

"not able" is not a useful problem description. It does not say what
you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, ...)
can be more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

How do you know that? Again, actual observations, please.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. The User Manual should explain the procedure.

What is this Ethernet cable connecting to the router? Some computer?
Which OS?

Did you follow the procedure in the User Manual? "pushing the reset
button" is not a useful description.
> Router rebooted but ssid still showing the one i configured but not
> the ones came out of factory setting [...]
Ok. Then that was not a full ("factory") reset.
> Try to reach setting page by physically connect the laptop with router
Does "physically connect" mean that you ran an Ethernet cable from
your "the laptop" to one of the LAN ports of the R6900?
> and try to browse router setting page but getting 404
What, exactly, does "browse router setting page" mean? What,
exactly, did you put into the browser's URL box? If you really got a
"404" error, then it might be time to reload the firmware of the R6900.
If you got some other failure, which did not actually say "404", then
please don't try to interpret the actual error, just report it.
> Which OS?
Still wondering.

This may sound like a silly question, I ask it because people have made this mistake in the past. Was the router turned on when you reset it?
If not you won't get very far.
Oh, and when setting up a network, do things in the right order:
- Turn off and unplug the modem.
- Turn off the modem router and computers.
- Plug in the modem and turn it on. Wait 2 minutes.
- Turn on the modem router and wait 2 minutes.
- Turn on the computers.
This avoids modem/routers and routers fighting for control of your network.

Ok. Under System Preferences > Network, what are the settings?
According to its User Guide, the Arris modem uses a subnet of
192.168.100.*, and the R6900 uses a subnet of 192.168.1.*. Are the Mac
network settings changing appropriately when you move its cable from one
to the other?
Also, you might try this with nothing connected except one cable from
your Mac to a LAN port on the router. (And restart the Mac.)

I storngly believe ip configuration will be the issue, I'm bit novice in mac , could you please provide me the link on how to configure these
As of now
Assigned DHCP IP shows as 192.168.1.2
Router IP address shows as 192.168.1.1
DNS IP shows as 192.168.1.1
but as per Xfinity service providers there DNS ip's are 75.75.75.75 and secondary is 75.75.76.76
I manually added these DNS ip in the configuration but nothing got changed
Please throw some light on this.
Thanks,
Sundher

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 (R6900)
Hi Sundher,
Is the arris modem a modem/router? If yes, try to configure it to bridge mode or modem only.

That all looks normal. With those settings, you should be able to
point your browser to "http://192.168.1.1", and get to the router's
management web site. Does that not work?
> but as per Xfinity service providers there DNS ip's are 75.75.75.75 and

The router should figure all that out on its own. The Mac can use
the R6900 (192.168.1.1) as its DNS server, and the R6900 will send any
DNS queries up the line to the next gizmo (the cable modem+router, or
the ISP, depending).
> I manually added these DNS ip in the configuration but nothing got
> changed
I'm not sure what "nothing got changed" means, but this step
shouldn't be needed. I wouldn't expect that to change anything.
(Almost anything, that is. Specifying any real-world DNS servers will
probably prevent "[www.]routerlogin.net" (and its friends) from working,
but 192.168.1.1 is still 192.168.1.1.)
> I'm more of windows guy
This stuff all works about the same everywhere; only the names are
changed to cause confusion.
> Is the arris modem a modem/router? If yes, try to configure it to
> bridge mode or modem only
That might be reasonable, but you should be able to access the R6900
using http://192.168.1.1 before you do anything with the Arris
modem+router.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 (R6900)
Nice to have it confirmed that a factory reset worked for you. Some people see this as "magic", done only when you have not investigated the tries causes of the problem.
I effect, your message is a nice description of the standard strategy.
- Reset the device to factory settings.
- Start your network in the recommended order.
All of this was described quite some time ago in this discussion. But good to see that it finally worked for you.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 (R6900)
Hi michaelkenward ,
Yes, I accepted the point it was mentioned earlier in the thread but the only difference is this time router reset was fullback to factory mode instead of partial one's I believe previous router configuration with C3700 modem might be caused this issue.
thanks a lot for this community
Thanks,
Sundher
