Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 Slow Speeds

Hello,

I am having trouble getting high speeds on this router. I have a 1GB fiber line. It goes ONT to Nighthawk. The Nighthawk is in PPPoE, has VLAN ID and VLAN tagging set to 201. I followed the intructions here https://superuser.com/questions/1148268/how-to-ditch-centurylink-fiber-modem Seems to be working but I am getting half the speed that the provided router gives. The NightHawk is giving 350 down and 450 up. The provider provided router is doing 700 down 900 up. These are wired speeds, as in plugged into the Nighthawk straight to my pc. The wireless speeds are the same for the NightHawk. The provided router is untested for wireless. Any suggestions?

Firmware Version V1.0.9.42_10.2.44

This is the same problem that I am having. The Nighthawk is throttling my speeds. This discussion does not appear to have a solution.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 Slow Speeds

I have the same issue with R7000 and slow 1Gb/s speed over pppoe.

I haven't tried the latest firmware version - R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.58 (notes: Improved WAN throughput when Traffic Meter enabled , etc ...)

I am forced to use xwrt-vortex to achive full speed with 1 Gb/s connection.

Could you please explain what this means? Sorry I am not very savvy inb the area if routers.

Okay. So this is a different firmware. What version are you running? Do you need to do anything special? Are you on centurylink fiber? Do you still use PPPoe with the new firmware? Are you reaching full 1Gb/s speeds now?

Thanks

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 Slow Speeds

Hi,

I am using XWRT for Netgear R7000 v380.70 / v384.7

Link to instructions how to install this custom firmware: https://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/asuswrt-merlin-on-netgear-r7000.71108/

It's pretty straightforward but you need to be carefull and follow instructions.

I am using Orange 1Gb/s connetion, pppoe connection, everything works, speed is excellent (full speed).

It's really sad that I cannot achive that on official firmware....

My R7000 used to download at half the speed compared to a direct connection to the NBN modem so I disabled QOS and it fixed it!!!   Back to full speed.
