Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wifi Model R7000 Latest Version

My Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wifi Model R7000 is on version V1.0.9.88_10.2.88 .  When updating via Admin/Router Update it says I'm up to date.  Am I?  I ask because when I go to Netgear website it appears that 1.0.11.104 is the latest?

Sorry for my confusion.  Thanks for your help!!!

Define "up to date".  Does it include "beta" firmware?

I'm not exactly clear on your response.  I did review the post you linked also.  Are you saying any newer version I have is beta?

You can see what's available at the moment (and how it's classified)
as well as I can.  Whether Netgear's version-check or auto-update
features are properly maintained is a different question.

You have to admire an organization which posts on the
"Support / R7000" page a notice which says:

      (!) 6/30/20 - Firmware update 1.0.11.104 Hot Fix for R8000 now
      available. Download the Update

Yes, this is where my original confusion was as I tried to explain.  Ok, so sounds like I should be confortable with the beta?  I did download it.

Or, perhaps, no more uncomfortable than with any of the recent
(bug-ridden) normal releases.

I don't use an R7000 regularly, so all I know is what I read in the
papers.  A little forum/Web searching for a model and version number
might find reports from users with actual experience.

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wifi Model R7000 Latest Version

Thanks for the advise!

I first researched what is the vulnerability and found it allows hackers remote access to your devices.

These routers fail to properly protect user input like passwords and settings, which means hackers can easily inject malicious requests that bypass your router’s security.

Netgear suggests

Turning off Remote Management on your router or gateway web user interface significantly reduces your risk of exposure to these vulnerabilities. Remote Management on your router or gateway’s web user interface is turned off by default. If you never enabled Remote Management, you do not need to take any action to turn off Remote Management.

I dont' use remote management so it's turned off.

The fix for my router as discussed above is

R7000 version hot fix 1.0.11.104

Only 2 folks comments I found on this board on folks using 1.0.11.104 on the exact router are:

  1. Installed 7/3, but as of 7/8 having lost connections
  2. After 30/30/30 reset on 7/2 with hot fix 1.0.11.104 No issues of last report of 7/2

Netgear says

Full regression testing is reserved for final production firmware fixes.

What is the take on final production firmware fix?  Will that happen and if so how long does it normally take?  I'm asking because I dont' seem to have any issues with my router and since remore management is turned off I'm thinking leave well enough alone for now.

Thanks!!!!!

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wifi Model R7000 Latest Version

Folks,

Should I trust the hot fix 1.0.11.104?  I'm asking again because I don't have remote management enabled and I prefer fully tested released software for all.  When I check using router update from routerlogin.net it does not provide a newer version than what I have installed now.

Thanks in adance for your help!

Re: Nighthawk AC1900 Smart Wifi Model R7000 Latest Version

Ok,  well I'm sadly still looking for guidance.  I did find out about a link that could be used to download the newest version (not sure if it's beta or not).

https://kb.netgear.com/000062112/R7000-Firmware-Version-1-0-11-106

The above link went to a page with a download link

Security Fixes:

  • Fixes security issues.

For more information about security vulnerabilities, visit https://www.netgear.com/about/security

Download Link: http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R7000/R7000-V1.0.11.106_10.2.100.zip

But the download link didn't take me directly to download the code.

It took me to

https://www.netgear.com/mynetgear/portal/myProducts.aspx

It's asking me to buy support.  I bought this years ago and no longer have support.  Does this mean you need to have support to get new releases?  I've never had to do this with the routerlogin.net option.

Thanks, advance!

Interesting.  The HTML on that page is defective.  It displays the
correct link, which you copied+pasted here, but it actually takes you
elsewhere ("https://my.netgear.com/myNETGEAR/myProducts.asp").

If you click on what you pasted above, that link works fine for me.

You have to admire how thoroughly Netgear checks this stuff before
publishing it.

Just don't use the link in the Release Notes file?  (Yow.)

   No.

I have no idea why, but I tried again with the link they provided and I pasted above.  Now it works!...  It does not say beta like the previous link, so I'm assuming this is good production code!  Very odd, maybe they fixed the link after I tried initially?  ugh...

I explained why; the HTML on that page is defective.  See above.

> [...] maybe they fixed the link after I tried initially? [...]

No.  The "Download Link" link is (still) defective on:

      https://kb.netgear.com/000062112

If you hover your cursor over it, then your browser should display
the actual (wrong) destination.  But, as explained above, the displayed
link text is correct, so, if you use that text, then you should get to
the (right) ".zip" archive.
