Nighthawk MR5100 Can only connect on 2.4ghz unsecured, 5ghz is fine secured
Nighthawk MR5100
Hardware 1.2
Firmware NTGX55 12.04.10.01
I can no longer connect to my hotspot on the 2.4ghz band with security, only with it unsecured (no WPA or anything). It works fine on USB tether and secured on the 5ghz band. My android device says "cannot obtain ip address" and my iphone just keeps looking stupid. Both devices, and more, have worked fine up until now. I have power-cycled more times than I can count and I have done a factory reset 4 times. I was trying to re-locate the hotspot for optimum quality and I did initially shut off the 5ghz band. I had to the 5ghz back on just to use it securely. I figured that maybe I enabled or disabled the wrong thing somewhere but the factory resets did not help.
What am I missing here?

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
Mobile Routers, Hotspots & Modems
Those things are very different from the standard Netgear routers covered in this section.
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
