Nighthawk R7000 Slow WiFi speed

my wifi speed has dropped to less than 50Mbs down and 10MBs up, when I direct connect with cat6 to cable (Spectrum) moden speeds are well over 200 Mbs down and 11Mbs up. Researching this I fine 2 solutions 1) too bad I bought a Netgear - they only last 12-18 months, or 2) down grade firmware.

I had a Netgear years ago (don't remember model, but it did die within a couple years, replaced with a Dlink till I moved out, Dlink still works, newer Netgear, not doing so well

Firmware Option:

I am at the current firmware, done the reboots, and adjusted all configurations I could. last thing is to try to downgrade to firmware to version.28,  I have the download.

Could someone explain how to install a later version software? I have Genie installed but that only allows for upgrading to the latest version, how do I install later firmware?

What's your actual model number?  Look at the product label.

As always, an actual version number would be more useful than your
opinion of what's "current" today.

   That's an _earlier_ version.  Generally:

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

Of course, for a model Cxxxx, your ISP, not you, has control over
your firmware.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 Slow WiFi speed

Antinode - your instructions for loading"ealier" versions were helpful but changing the firmware didn't resolve the problem, so back to current version (1.0.9.64_10.2.64) . I'm getting download speeds of over 200Mbs when direct connected (Cat 6) to router, wifi download speed between 7 and  50 Mbs, any ideas are welcomed.

   "changing the firmware" to what?

"Latest" and "best" are spelled differently for a reason.  A quick
search of the forum should find any number of suggestions to try going
back to the ".42" firmware.  But I know nothing.

So, wired speed through either the modem or the modem and router is
as expected?

But wireless speed is a disappointment?  Speed measured how, to
what?

There are many possible causes for slow wireless connections,
including a slow wireless client device, local interference, using the
2.4GHz band instead of 5GHz, and a host of others.  My own service is so
slow that I never worry about my own wireless speeds, so I know nothing,
but a forum or Web search for terms like:

      slow  wireless  (or "WiFi")

should find any number of suggestions.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 Slow WiFi speed

Do you actually have a C7000 Modem./Router AND an R7000?

Is the Modem/Router BRIDGED so it is not sending out a WifI signal?

As a test, turn off the ROUTER and use the router function of the modem. What Wifi speed do you get?

What is the WifI device and its network adapter, make, model, and speed?

Is the speed the same on BOTH SSID's?

Re: Nighthawk R7000 Slow WiFi speed

I only have the R7000, reference to the C7000 was incorrect. I am using multiple wifi devices mostly a Lenovo Yoga (Driver: Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adaptor) and Samsung S8, also have Ipad, DVD, other misc devices.

The speed on 5G varies from 10-200+ Mbps, do not use 2.4G as that is always has been much slower.

I've been running a number of speed tests, mainly sticking with Spectrum's for consistancy, results vary widely through out the day when on Wifi (5-200+Mbps). When I direct connect with CAT6 cable to R7000 and run test I consistantly get above 200+ Mbs

Does it vary on a device, or across the devices? Try the 2.4G as well, it is capable of getting 200Mbps or so.

Have you tried changing SSID channels?

Have you tested with ONLY 1 wireless device connected (or turned on)? Others on at the same time can cause slowdowns.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 Slow WiFi speed

After further testing it is looking like a compatablity issue between the G5 network and my Lenovo Yoga 920.

G8 phone has no problems on the 5G, consistantly over 200 Mbps.

The Lenovo on the 2.4G is around 100 Mbps, which I can live with.

Did some prelimiary research on the Lenovo, looks like there's a few communities discussing problems with it's Wifi.

IrvSp - I appreciate your assistance and advice, it helped.
