Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

I installed this update (V1.0.9.28_10.2.32) early in the morning and had all 2.4G devices dropped off about 10 hours later.  Nothing showed up in log.  Wired & 5G devices continued normally.  Reset restored communication.  I rolled back to V1.0.9.26_10.2.31 which was more stable.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

Also like to report that I am having similar issues on R7000 with this latest firmware V1.0.9.28_10.2.32

After x amount of hours (less than a day) I would notice no wifi connectivity 2.4Ghz to the router.

I am able to ping to the router and to google DNS via wired connection.

Current workaround to down grade to previous firmware to see if matter stablizes.

I downloaded the firmware and now will monitor for now.

Does it address the issues? the brief details dont really tell much.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

Sorry for the late reply.

So I tried the hot fix.

Made things worse as I lost WAN(internet) completedly.

Interesting enough I was able to ping the router and able to ping the DNS (8.8.8.8).

Just had no internet.

Got fed up, so keep reading forums and when back to an older firmware V1.0.9.18.

Did a 30-30-30 reset plus factory default via menu.

Thing were back up again.

But for a day or so, I noticed though there had been some increase latency when I do a ping test to the DNS address 8.8.8.8 over the course of the day. (usual floats avg 35-45) but seen it spike to 1135msec.

Believe it or not, I than update back to the V1.0.9.28 (factory reset) and things started to working again.

I let it run for a day and enabled QoS as a hunch to keep the spike latency down since I am not sure which device may or may not have been using more bandwidth.

Now it been good so far.

Overall, it seem the downgrade to V1.0.9.18 and upgrade back to the latest V1.0.9.28 helped stablize things for NOW.

Still monitoring and will provide feedback after the weekend.

Do note though, Circle By Diseny did drop once and I had to toggle it back and forth to bring it back online (notification seen on iPhone app).

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

I too have been having the router dropping the 2.4GHz channel from time to time.

I'm running Firmware: V1.0.9.28_10.2.32

It was working fine and I just turned on the Guest 2.4G and the regular 2.4G dropped and now nothing is working.  I turned off the 2.4G Guest and tried the 5G Guest and I'm able to connect to the 5G but the 2.4 G is still flaky!

This has been happening since several firmware updates over the past 3-4 months.  From the forums this problem seems pretty pervasive.

I've looked at the router log but it is pretty useless.  If there is some more detailed log file I could access and send to NetGear I'd be happy to do it if that helps debug this problem.  Let me know if there is a way to access a more detailed logfile.

I'm concerned about that hot fix which seemed to make matters worse so I prefer not to try it.

I have not tried the hotfix but a report above seems to indicate it may have issues with the 2G.  I've rolled back to ...18...27 and it's been running perfectly for about two weeks.

Select previous versions near the bottom of the page.

Netgear recommends you do a hard reset after you upgrade firmware.

I suggest you install this version and try it.  If you have issues, then do the hard reset and reconfigure manually.  I'm not sure but I think when I rolled back I did not do the hard reset.  I did a hard rest going up to ...26 and ...28

Please give us some feedback and Kudos if this helps.

I installed this FW yeterday and it's been working well for about 24 hours.  I did not perform a hard reset.

Ok.  I'll try the beta hot fix and if that doesn't work I roll back to V1.0.9.18_1.2.27.

Stay tuned!

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

Installed R7000-V1.0.9.30_10.2.33_beta firmware.
I did NOT do a hard reset.  Just the normal Firmware install and the system rebooted.

So far so good.  I was able to easily connect to the 2 GHz network - which was giving me problems before.  I will report back later on stability and any other behaviors.

After upgrade the hotfix. It's better, but still not stable for android phone.  I should re-connect wifi on my phone to make internet works.

After two days (running...30 Hot-Fix) Ookla Speed test is showing 2G download speeds at about 50% of normal.  Genie shows link speeds normal.  Rolled back to ...18 and 2G download speeds back to normal.     ...30 Hot-Fix better than ...28 but not providing sustained 2G performance.   5G and wired perfomance normal with all versions tested so far.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

Update, this morning 2G wifi was slow to aboout 25%.  Performed "erase" function and reloaded backed up config for ---18..27.  I used "erase" function because hard reset button is hard to reach due to mounting location of router.  Working well (normal speeds & no errors logged) after 12 hours.

I've had the best luck with V1.0.9.18_1.2.27.  It was reliable for at least a couple of weeks (the longest I've tested it).  I've been playing around with the newer versions ( 26, 28, 30 all have issues) and after rolling back to ...18 without a hard reset it got slow after a while so there appears to be an issue with rolling back from a later version.  Bottom line, roll back to ...18, do a hard reset, and reconfigure manually.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

I've only just received my router a few days ago and installed it yesterday. I cannot comment how it would have been on the previous firmware because I updated straight away, and, on V1.0.9.28_10.2.32, I immediately had issues with connecting Chromecast, which, I believe, depends on IGMP proxying being enabled. I soon tracked it down to QoS being on, and it didn't connect on both Advanced (device priority) and Dynamic settings. As well as that, the QoS brought the connection speed to just about half of the 200mbps which should be provided by the ISP, and on my Surface Pro 3, it was 4mbps on download - yes, that's 4! I think that was with QoS on or off. By about 1:30 in the morning I was frustrated, discouraged, and swearing at the whole thing at the top of my throat.

I didn't believe in the hotfix much, but I decided to give it a go nonetheless. Installed the hotfix, R7000-V1.0.9.30_10.2.33_beta.chk, and was very sceptical: it's in beta, after all. With the advanced QoS on (by device), the Chromecast worked! The connection speed was also back to its full whack (quite a bit over, actually). With bated breath, I restarted the router, and all still worked just the same. I rebooted the Chromecast device, and it still worked.

So, as my last and final attempt to break it, I went to enable Guest network (on 2.4 ghz only). There was a drop in connection for one 2.4ghz device on my network, but it promptly reconnected. I then connected a laptop to the guest network and disconnected it after a short while. I then rurned off the guest network. Again, there was a momentary drop in connection for the 2.4ghz device, then all was back up.

Other things that work which didn't work on the dreaded and horrible Virgin Superhub 3:

- the mobile devices don't drop connection

- the streaming doesn't break after 5 minutes

- the IP phone doesn't go awol after 5 minutes on a call

Maybe, I'm just lucky, but so far, no further issues on the network, so the hotfix may be doing its job. I know not all report that it does, and for some, toggling a guest network breaks everything and you are forced to downgrade. It was interesting that someone here reported that after downgrading, he re-upgraded, and all was OK after that.

Re: Nighthawk R7000 V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 Drops 2.4G

I've been runninng version V1.0.9.30_10.2.33  on my R7000 for several weeks and things seem stable.

Able to connect to both 2 and 5 GHz bands.

Netgear if you are listening...

1. Please perform better firmware testing - ask for users willing to beta-test?

2. The logs that are generated in the web interface are useless.  How about some useful logging that might actually diagnose a problem.  This might help determine if the problem is due to the router or perhaps the environment in which it is running (could be alot of different things - interference, router location relative to the build structure/materials).

Is a factory reset required after installing the latest Hot-Fix.  The notes indicate "Supports Auto Firmware Upgrade"  What does that mean?
