Having both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz is actually better, that way you don't saturate one band or the other alone on the router. Have faster devices that support ac use the 5Ghz band and slower devices use the 2.4 Ghz band so that slow devices don't slow down the faster ones.

Thank you Avtella. A quick update... the connection dropped again. I figured there's just one thing left and replaced the patch cable. It came right back on. Maybe that was an add-on factor.
